Traveling to Croatia, booking a villa with pool

Hello!

We are in the process of planning a holiday in Croatia during June of 2027. We are 2 families that are gonna drive through Europe before ending up in Croatia. The families consist of 2 adults and 2 children each. We are looking to book a house with pool, kitchen etc for up to 10 nights.

Myself, I've been to Split, Makarska, Tucepi and Dubrovnik but this was 10 - 15 years ago without kids. Those times I flew down and looked for places to stay while already there. This time we have other demands and need to plan and book accordingly.

Now, my biggest question is, the website myluxoria, how safe is it to book there? In this day and age I feel like the pictures might aswell be AI generated but I can't find that many negative reviews regarding the website.

And the other question is, are there any cities/villages we need to avoid? Apart from the ones already mentioned, I have been looking at Krk, Sibenik etc. The houses there are in our pricerange and according to different websites there is beaches/foodstores/restaurants in close promixity or driving distance. We are primarily looking to have a nice house where we can hangout/make dinners etc but occasionally we would like to go on daytrips (2 cars) and for example Sibenik looks like it fits the description. Minor distance to Split for example.

Thanks for any help!

Split, HR in November - any off-season pitfalls I should know about?

I'm planning a trip to Split in November. I don't feel utterly clueless about what I'm getting myself into, as I've visited the country before (and really enjoyed it). However, that trip was in the summertime, and I want to gauge how different (and difficult) it'll be in the winter.

I'm not really concerned about Split itself - cities run year-round. But I am also wanting to squeeze in a couple nights in and around Hvar, which I think is much more of a tourist zone. There is lodging available there (allegedly), but will I get off the catamaran to find all the restaurants closed two months ago? Any chance of coffee bars being open?

What about some of the more touristy things in the surrounding countryside? I'm looking forward to visiting some of the old forts and archeological sites in the hills and up the train line; do any of those close outside of high season? What about the bars and restaurants around them (you may be able to sense a theme here)?

Finally, SHOULD I expect any issues in Split itself? I don't know how to speak Croatian, and I could see places that would usually be surge-staffed in the summer now only expecting locals and be running with fewer employees that might not be able to cater to my monolingual ass. I can adjust to that, but it'd be important to know.

And of course anything else I should know - is there a secret week-long holiday everyone takes in the back half of November? etc.

Thanks in advance!

Cruise advise - Spilt to Dubrovnik

Hi - my wife and I are retired and want to book a deluxe small ship cruise for May or September 2027. We are travelling from the US.

I have seen the popular small ship cruise lines and am having a hard time seeing how they differentiate themselves. They all seem to offer different levels of service and itineraries, but their pricing seems quite varied. How do I decide between them?

Also, we are trying to determine which of the many itineraries would suite us best. We like the sound of the small village dining / tasting experiences.

Any recommendations would be welcome.

Thanks!

Zadar - local buses

I am traveling soon to Zadar and I would like to know what your experiences are with the local buses. Are they on time, can I expect any delays/early arrivals/cancelled buses etc? I checked the bus stops on google maps, seems like not all of them is marked with the bus sign + if I feel like using a day at Diklo/Bibinje beaches, I wanna make sure that I’ll be able to get home in the evening. :D
I checked the liburnija website, are these timetables correct/up to date? https://liburnija-zadar.hr/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/2POLUOTOK-CENTAR1.9.2025.pdf
Thank you in advance!

Do we need a car in Hvar?

Girlfriend and I are visiting Hvar this August so we're wondering how necessary is a car in Hvar and are there any cool boat rides or mini excursions that take you around the island to check out various beaches?

Would appreciate any advice with our plan. Not sure if we’re trying to do too much?

Sep 8- Arrive Dubrovnik late afternoon and explore

Sep 9- fort walls

Sep 10- Hvar

Sep 11- Hvar and island hopping

Sep 12- Island hop

Sep 13- drive to Split and take ferry to Plitvice

Sep 14- Lake Plitvice. Fly out from Zagreb late night or early September 15

We would really like to do Plitvice but seems like a trek to get to. Should we fly into Croatia and go directly to Plitvice or do it before we leave? Or is 6-7 day itinerary too short to also do Plitvice?

Should I change anything? Reverse the order in any way? Is it too much for 6 days? We’re 2 couples in early 30s

Going to Split

My husband and I want go to Split. We are not party lovers, we just want to go for access to beautiful beaches/views and lovely weather but I’m also vegan so we wanted to go somewhere that has decent supermarkets and some restaurants with options.

If we don’t like the party scene, will we hate it? Will nights be rowdy?

I’ve looked at airbnbs in Solin with the idea to use public transport to travel into Split most days

Also we want to stay for a week is that too long?

It’s more to have a relaxing holiday with some sightseeing

Need Help with Upcoming Plans!!

There are 4 of us going from August 16–26. Three of us fly into Dubrovnik, then we’ll head to Split to pick up our fourth friend. Our three stops will be Split, Hvar, and Dubrovnik, with Dubrovnik being last since that’s where we fly home from.

We’re trying to minimize the time we have a rental car. Would it make more sense to go to Hvar first for a few days, then rent a car once we’re back in Split? Or is it worth having a car the whole time?

Also, how would you split the days between Split, Hvar, and Dubrovnik? We’re looking to do some day trips from either Dubrovnik or Split.

Any feedback would be helpful!

Street eats in Zagreb & what to wear to Plitvice?

Hey guys,

Wondering if you knew any great street eats places in Zagreb for an authentic experience?

Also wondering what to wear to Plitvice in late August? Seen people wearing normal clothes and others wearing exercise gear. Not too sure what the norm is!
Cheers.

Two Girls 30s Traveling to Split and Hvar

Hi All,

My friend and I are traveling to Split and Hvar and looking to day party and night party but are getting mixed reviews on where to stay and how long to stay for. Does Hvar still have the same vibes as before? It seems like it has died down on the party scene and it would make sense for us to just stay in Split and island hop? Would love any tips from anybody who has already traveled this summer :)

Croatia in December/January

Hi all, family of 4 (with 12 and 3 year old kids) going to Croatia at the end of this year for the first time.

We will be in Slovenia before that and will be arriving in Zagreb around 29th December. Current itineraries are:

29-31st Dec: Zagreb - day trip to Varazdin

1-2 Jan: Split (flight from Zagreb to Split).

3 Jan: Mostar - plan is to rent a car from Split and do a road trip and return the car in Dubrovnik

4 Jan: Kotor

5-6 Jan: Dubrovnik

7 Jan: flight back to Zagreb then departing day after from Croatia back home.

Any feedback is welcome as we haven't lock in the accommodation and transport yet. I do note that it might seem a bit rush to cover so many places but it seems like a miss to skip places like Mostar and Kotor while we are nearby.

Also, where is better to celebrate NYE, Zagreb, Split or Dubrovnik, especially for young kids?

Thank you.

day pass at hotel in Hvar town?

We couldn't get our desired morning ferry so have to do something between 10a and 4p ferry departure.

It's HOT, so I thought maybe hotel day pass. Anyone know of such an option in Hvar town?

Or... something else to do with a family of 4 for the heat of the day?

TIA!!

Easiest way to travel from Split airport and onwards?

My daughter and I are flying in to Split and need to get from the airport to our accommodation in the Varoš area. I’ve looked up the shuttle bus from the airport and it would be an additional 20 minute walk from the bus station to our apartment. As far as I can see it’s a direct shuttle with no stops. Is that right and would this be the best option? I did look into a taxi which would double the price if I book one in advance, but I get nervous with knowing what time we’ll be coming out of baggage claim etc.

When we leave we’ll be going from the ferry port, which I think is close to the bus station, so we’ll have the same journey in reverse.

Luggage wise we’ll have a wheelie suitcase each plus hand luggage, so I don’t know how easy it would be to navigate around the smaller streets with them.

Any help would be most appreciated, thank you.
