Unnecessary action in basketball game led to catastrophic knee injury
Seeking pre surgery and post surgery advice. Advice in general. And just a platform to vent on.
I'm a 6'7 200lb 29 year old man. A few weekends ago I was playing in a high level basketball league. I was charged at from behind after I secured a defensive rebound (an action that was totally unnecessary as the play was over and potentially malicious)and felt my knee bend inwards towards my other knee and violently pop. He got a flagrant foul and I got a year of my rathletic ability robbed from me.
Complete ACL rupture
Multiple complex tears of both menisci
Partial MCL tear
Cartilage loss with two loose fragments
Bone injury
Significant swelling and a ruptured Baker’s cyst
Having surgery next week. Using my own tissue to reconstruct a ACL ligament, trimming and repairing the meniscus arthroscopically , and having an open surgery to fix the torn off cartilage pieces. I opted for a new coral based product called Cartiheal Agili-C, which they'll adhere to the bone and it should grow new cartilage on top. Pretty cool stuff. They're telling me a year before I'll be doing things normally again.
Anyways, thanks for reading. Trying to find silver linings in as many things as possible. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.
