Will ultralight ever shift to grams?

Ok I know this will be contentious, but it’s just to get people’s perspectives.

I want to preface by saying that the whole idea of UL was popularised by Americans who used ounces and pounds and that’s really cool*** I’m just seeing what people think about using grams.

Reasons for this:
- Grams go to smaller increments (28.35 grams in an ounce)
- grams scale to kilos 1-1,000 so easier to work with
- grams always convert to 1ml of water* so easier for conversion for volume and capacity for packs and water carries

Realistically I know that all cultures have their own ways of doing things and I’m frankly doing my best to learn the imperial system, but while doing so I’ve realised grams might be easier for this community and just wanted to know your thoughts

Financial tips as I leave federal service?

I’m leaving a federal job after 6 years of service (Dept of Commerce). I still believe in what my agency is trying to do but the private sector offered a lot more money and frankly I’m exhausted by all the bullshit.

I’m looking for advice about wrapping things up, especially on the financial side. I know I should set my TSP to an investment account but I’m not sure what kind; any tips about different tax liabilities etc? Also, I can’t for the life of me figure out how I would apply for deferred retirement annuity that comes from the Basic Benefits Plan part of FERS. It’ll be 22 years until I reach 62 years of age (🤞) but I don’t want to lose this benefit. Is there a website for the Basic Benefits Plan?? I can’t find anything of the EPP page under the “links” tab.

I’ve saved everything in my eOPF account and I’ve saved a year of earnings and leave statements (an admin said I should do this I think because showing a year of continual employment is helpful for a mortgage?).

Are there other big things you can think of or that you wished you had done when you left the federal government?

TIA and best wishes to all. I’ve greatly appreciated this community over the last 18 months.
