CDL for passenger van in Canada as an American?

Regular guy here living in Oklahoma. Annually we take a trip to British Columbia in Canada. We typically fly into either Seattle or Spokane and rent a car to drive the rest of the way. We're doing this trip again with 8 people but renting a passenger van. We tried it last year but with the van sitting up to 15, the rental counter told us we'd have an issue crossing the border without a proper CDL.

I'm coming to this subreddit to ask the following questions.

What type of CDL do I need? Is it a C or can I get a chauffeur license?

If I do go the CDL route, what's the cheap and easy way to do it? Needing to have this done by September if possible. I really just need whatever license, do not expect to have a use for it outside this trip.
