OKC apartment recommendations?
Looking for recommendations for a decent 1 bed / 1 bath apartment in the OKC/Moore area around $750–850/month.
I’ll be moving to OKC from Tulsa over the summer for school. So I’m not familiar with what the good apartment complexes around the OKC area are.
I’m a college student and will be commuting between south OKC and Moore regularly for work/school, so I’d like something with a reasonable commute and decent highway access. I don’t need luxury amenities, mainly just somewhere reasonably safe, quiet enough, and managed decently.
I’m okay with older apartments if they’re maintained well. Also interested in hearing places to avoid or management companies people have had bad experiences with.
Any recommendations?
Final plans approved for Oklahoma City mental health crisis center
The Robert Ravitz Crisis Center is one step closer to being built.
The Oklahoma City Council voted Tuesday to approve the final plans for the multi-million dollar center, which will be a new landing place for people experiencing mental health crises or struggling with substance abuse.
The center is part of Oklahoma City’s $1.1 billion MAPS 4 program. In 2019, residents voted to use nearly $45 million toward building mental health and substance abuse crisis facilities and transitional housing.
A portion of that funding – $12.27 million – was allocated for the Robert Ravitz Crisis Center construction. The Arnall Family Foundation also contributed $3 million to the project.
The treatment facility is named in honor of the decades-long Oklahoma County public defender, Robert “Bob” Ravitz, who championed the rights of people with mental illnesses in the criminal legal system. He argued before the U.S. Supreme Court in Cooper v. Oklahoma, a landmark case that resulted in a unanimous ruling to protect the rights of defendants awaiting competency to stand trial.
The center will be owned by the city and operated by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. City officials said the center is intended to reduce unnecessary emergency room visits and jail stays for people who are in crisis.
“Too often, people experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis needlessly end up in emergency rooms or jails,” said Statewide Crisis Services Director Lauren Stover. “The Robert Ravitz Crisis Center represents a major investment in a crisis response system that gives people a safe place to stabilize, access treatment and begin recovery outside of hospital emergency departments or the criminal justice system.”
The center will have space for emergency assessments and stabilization. It will also connect people experiencing mental health crises to ongoing support.
The center will include an urgent recovery center with 25 observation stations and a social living area. There are also plans for two crisis stabilization wings with up to 16 beds, a group therapy room, a calming room, a social living area and an outdoor courtyard. The center will also have administrative offices, a kitchen and a cafeteria.
It will be located at 1200 NE 13th St., on the east side of the OU Health Sciences campus and at the corner of the Innovation District. It’s directly west of the former location for Mental Health Association Oklahoma’s Lottie House, which is being demolished to make room for the new facility.
Construction is expected to begin early this summer, and the Robert Ravitz Crisis Center is scheduled to open in 2027.
Local narcissistic abuse recovery group has a couple openings
I wanted to share a local resource in case it helps someone here.
I’m a counselor in the OKC/Edmond area, and I run a closed treatment/support group for survivors of narcissistic abuse and relational trauma. We currently have a couple of openings after a few group members recently "graduated" and are no longer in need of any services.
This group is for people who grew up with a narcissistic parent and/or may technically be “out” of a narcissistic abuse relationship but still feel stuck in the aftermath — second-guessing themselves, self-isolating, feeling shame, little-to-no self worth, having trouble trusting their own judgment, struggling with boundaries, or continuing to end up in one-sided/narcissistic relationships.
One of the reasons group work can be so helpful for this is that many survivors feel like no one really understands unless they’ve experienced the same kind of dynamic. The group gives people a confidential place to work through those patterns with others who get it, while also getting specific treatment for the underlying problems, and learning practical skills like assertiveness, boundaries, needs-monitoring, conflict tolerance, and cognitive restructuring.
It meets Thursday evenings in okc. It’s closed, confidential, and screened beforehand.

Sen. Bernie Sanders has endorsed Trey Martin in Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District.
Per Trey Martin's Facebook page, Martin has been endorsed by Vermont Senator and 2x Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders. This is a pretty significant endorsement in the Oklahoma 5 race.

Edit: I do not yet have a source from Bernie Sanders to confirm this, this is only hours old so if anyone finds a source from Sanders it would be appreciated.

anyone recognize this lady?
she’s come to our house twice this week, both while my husband and i were gone. this time she’s snooping thru our mail and she KNOWS she’s being recorded because she waved to the camera the first day she came.
she has a badge but i’m hoping that a gov official or something would know better than to dig thru peoples mail since its a federal offense.
our neighbors said it looks like the lady they had to call the cops on for snooping and opening their cars and shit but i don’t know 🤦🏻♀️
edit: love when the full video doesn’t post, she dug thru our mail twice this evening, video just cut off
Commuting with a motorcycle
How is it to commute exclusively with a motorcycle within the greater OKC Metro? I have a friend moving here from Stillwater and she plans on selling her car and buying a motorcycle before she moves. We were curious how easy it will be to get groceries, get around in the rain or get her dog to the vet in case of emergency. I was also curious about how safe it was. I was reading that OKC was ranked most dangerous for bikes in 2019 and that many of the laws are written to blame motorcyclists (no filtering so it's your fault if you avoid getting crushed from behind and get hit from the side). She was scared to drive my Kia Soul when we went on a trip last month so our friend group was surprised by this decision and very worried overall. If anyone has any statistics or even words of wisdom that would help alleviate the stress they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! We want to be supportive but this has been ringing alarm bells 😭 I think she's just excited because she thinks that she'll look cool but we just want her to be safe

SQ 832
For all independents, Democrats, libertarians & other registered voters not registered Republican in Oklahoma. We can vote in our normal polling place on SQ 832. We won't receive a primary ballot just the SQ ballot. Just because it is the Republican primary that doesn't exclude every registered voters right to vote on the state question.
We should raise the minimum wage because…
Most Oklahomans support raising the minimum wage, but in recent elections most Oklahomans didn't vote. It wasn't always like this. Our voter participation was above the national average in the 1990s. It's time to turn this around. Let's start by reclaiming the power of our initiative petition and get this minimum wage increase past the finish line. Let's get Oklahomans to the polls and make our voices heard again. Let's get this done, y'all!
These door to door pest control salesman are annoying as hell.
Dude if I didn’t answer the first three times that should be a sign. I’m sure as hell not answering at 8:35 pm . I finally had to tell him no as I saw him coming on his dumb Segway and just got the baby down .

Traffic Posts for r/okc versus actual statistics
Recently, a fellow r/okc member posted a general complaint about traffic in OKC. Frustrated, a replied that we have minimal traffic and that drivers are bad everywhere. The responses I got were pretty intense. One poster decided to call me a "bootlicker." Which, not sure how that label fits with the issue at hand, but I digress.
Pete from OKCTalk recently shared a relevant study by Consumer Affairs. Thought I would share it here in case someone's mind might be changed by an objective look at traffic. Of course, we all see dumb stuff on the road everyday. I'm not saying all OKC drivers are good. But I am saying that compared to the top 50 metros we've got it easy.
Thanks to mods for keeping conversation on track. To those who get incensed when someone speaks positivity about our city.... touch grass? :)

Embark Public Bus System Questions
I‘m doing some research and have some questions about the public bus system in OKC. Questions about stops and transfers, mostly. Does anyone here have intel that could help provide me answers? I’m not finding my questions anywhere online so I thought I’d ask here for someone knowledgeable to DM me. Thanks!
Walmart closed due to fire.
Apparently at around 3:00 a.m., some mental genius decided to set a clothes rack on fire inside the Walmart at Danforth and Santa Fe. The store is closed for the time being. This includes online pickup and home delivery. According to news sources, the same suspect also set a clothes rack on fire at the Walmart at Penn and Memorial.
OG&E SCAM
I received a call from “OG&E” with an Indian accent that my account was past balance. They had my name and address correct but when I checked online and called OGE (who also outsources calls to India) they reviewed my account and said no one had called me today. Please be aware and let people around you who might fall for this scam know.
Tree trimming cost
I've got a tree in my backyard that is near my house and the limbs are over my roof. It is also near the power lines from my house to the pole. I really need to get it trimmed back but I can't do it myself. How much does something like this cost?
Flock camera evasion and plate covers etc
They keep popping up, and i personally dont want to be logged constantly in an ever growing database of surveillance information that can be used by local law enforcement, the government, or any tech savvy individual to stalk me or whatever. Do any of you run distorting license plate covers and have you had trouble with police because of it.
I was looking at this one
https://camerastopper.com/products/camerastopper-system-cover-lens
and it is totally clear but from a vertical angle it distorts the numbers on your plate. Flock cameras are high up so in a lot of cases this would make your plate much harder to read.
Im not a criminal, i just don't think it's right that this evil company can just put cameras up all over the country without any American citizens voting for it or having any say in it even though it directly affects our lives and privacy and is pretty damn unconstitutional based on the 4th amendment. Like yea you're in a public place, but these cameras can build the database that tracks your every move and what you're doing inside the car and your political opinions based on bumper stickers etc, and build a profile on you, and police or government can access all of that without a warrant, which for sure is messed up.
According to Oklahoma law any plate cover is illegal, but it also says that the plate has to be fully visible and legible, and like technically that cover is legible so.. idk.
This whole countrywide dystopian surveillance thing is just fucked up. As citizens we gotta do something about it and fight back. Is this really the world we want to be living in?
Also, if there are any cops on this sub, what do you think about these cameras? Like not as a cop but as a hopefully ethical individual.

After pausing data center development, OKC city council adds exemptions
Oklahoma City has hit pause on allowing companies to build or expand data centers through the rest of this year.
At its meeting on Tuesday, the city council added exemptions to its moratorium, allowing some data centers to move forward.
The original moratorium, which passed on April 21, included exemptions for two facilities that were in the middle of zoning and permitting. The new amendment adds exemptions for two more data centers — at the Expand Energy Campus (formerly Chesapeake) and a facility near the OKC Outlet Mall.
The amendment allows companies to expand existing data centers or build new ones, as long as they use under 75 megawatts.
Ward 7 Councilman Camal Pennington said he appreciated that the exempted properties will still be subject to review, zoning and permitting.
“So the fact that we're not that we're just saying you're just going to have to go through the regular process, which allows the public to be heard, is a comfort to me in this,” Pennington said.
Ward 6 Councilwoman JoBeth Hamon said the exemptions feel like favoritism, because there’s already a mechanism to address any special cases.
“We have a process for folks to be heard and considered for exemptions or exceptions through the Board of Adjustment,” Hamon said. “I just have deep discomfort with including specific properties in our policy.”
The amendment passed 7-to-2. Councilmembers took an additional vote to enact it immediately.
