YT Decoy (EP801 / 720Wh) – Modiary charger hitting 63°C (145°F). Is this normal or a fire hazard?

Hi everyone,

I recently got a YT Decoy with the Shimano EP801 motor and the 720Wh battery. I’ve only charged it 5 times so far, but I am seriously concerned about the temperature of the stock Modiary charger.

Using an infrared laser thermometer, I measured the outer surface temperature at 63.1°C (145.6°F) during the initial bulk charging phase. The heat is so intense that the factory warning label has completely blistered and started lifting due to the glue failing.

I’ve done some DIY troubleshooting: I attached tall rubber feet (from an All-in-One PC) to lift it off the ground for better airflow, and I even placed it on top of a large metal pot to act as a heatsink. This dropped the surface temperature by about 5°C (down to ~57.7°C), but I am still not satisfied with these results.

I understand that the internal electronics and the plastic housing are probably rated to withstand higher temperatures (maybe up to 80°C before catastrophic failure or melting), but seeing 63°C on the outside feels incredibly sketchy.

My biggest fear is charging the bike out of sight – like leaving it in the hotel room, a mountain bike chalet/refuge, or the basement. If a charger gets this hot on a table, I'm terrified it could experience thermal runaway, melt the housing, and cause a house fire.

For other YT Decoy owners with the same setup: What temperatures are your chargers hitting?

Is anyone else experiencing sticker bubbling/blistering from the heat?

Should I push YT for a warranty replacement, or is this mass-produced Modiary brick just a notoriously hot-running design?

Thanks for any insights!
