I work at a school in the DOE, and I’ve noticed a level of nepotism that I didn’t really expect going in. There are multiple situations where a student’s mom, grandparent, or aunt also works at the school, and they’re constantly dropping into classrooms where their child is, checking in unannounced.

On top of that, they frequently question subs or staff about behavior concerns involving their own child, which can make it hard to maintain clear boundaries in the classroom. It sometimes feels like there’s no separation between their role as staff and their role as family, and it creates a pretty complicated dynamic for everyone involved.
