2010 Infiniti G37X Coupe — VR30 7AT Swap TCM Issue | Need Help

Hey everyone,

I have a 2010 Infiniti G37X AWD Coupe that just had a full VR30 7AT transmission swap done using the Z1 Motorsports G37X VR30 swap kit and JOL flexplate. The reason for the swap was that my original VQ37 transmission had an internal cooler failure that caused ATF to mix with coolant, contaminating the valve body and TCM. Rather than risk reusing contaminated parts I opted to run the VR30 valve body and TCM as is from the donor 2019 Q50.

The issue:

• Hard aggressive shifting in 1st and 2nd gear, smoother after that it seems okay but not shifting at 2500-3500 rpm

• Manual mode not functioning at all

• Car also had a dead/dying battery which was throwing CAN communication codes those were cleared and haven’t come back after driving it 5-6 times

What the shop told me:

The mechanical swap is solid. They’re pointing me toward tuners saying it’s likely a TCM/electronic issue not mechanical.

What tuners have told me so far:

• One tuner said the VR30 TCM can’t operate properly on a 2010 G37 and that full functionality including manual mode only works on 2013+ G37s recommending I source a clean VQ37 TCM

• Another tuner said they’ve done this swap many times and shifting should be normal currently waiting on their full diagnosis after sending them the codes

• Third tuner said they can tune the aggressive shifting but cannot fix manual mode through tuning alone

Attaching the scan results from the shop.

Has anyone run into this doing a VR30 swap on a 2010 G37X coupe? Is the VQ37 TCM the move? Can it then be tuned to work properly with the VR30 setup? Any help is appreciated.
