Well, here's my review of the first episode "Corps"; the Nova series that the MCU premiered on Disney+, but which I found pretty stupid to not just call "Nova Corps" for some weird reason.
Ewan McGregor does an excellent job as a veteran and tired Richard Rider, and the dynamic and chemistry between him and his partner Sam Alexander (Xolo Maridueña) stands out as a positive. However, I think it's a bit of a bad creative decision to use the trope that there's only one helmet for both of them, plus the fact that the suit is a physical object and not something that comes with the helmet.
The first episode was a good taste of everything we can expect to find, and it sets up the series' plot well. If you ask me, I still believe Richard didn't actually die and it's a Skrull posing as him, like the one he interviewed in prison, but we'll have to see how it all unfolds.
The mention of Rhoman Dey by Richard and how he got his helmet, I would have liked to see that represented on screen. It's not like with Timothée Chalamet's Spider-Man where we all already know the character's origin thanks to the Jake Gyllenhaal or Josh Hutcherson movies and that's why they skipped it. Since we only have the 2011 Nova movie starring Ryan Gosling which wasn't that well received, I think he deserves a proper on-screen origin. Hopefully Ryan Gosling makes a cameo in this series, but I think he's too busy playing Deathstroke in the upcoming Justice League movie.
There are details that still don't entirely convince me, let's hope the series picks up, but for now I'm not a huge fan. None of the trailers hooked me; I just hope to see him using his powers in the future.
