Here is a question I've wanted to figure out for years... I grew up in the late eighties/early nineties, and loved all the electronic music samplers you could buy: mixtapes, live shows, and compilations on cassette tapes.

But what I found weird is that a lot of the songs were by "one hit wonders" who were never heard from again. I've got tapes with hundreds of artists, but rarely with two songs by the same "person".

So, were there:

1. tons of electronic artists who only made one song and then quit?
   or
2. most of the eighties gabber/tribal/rave songs were actually by well-known producers who made up fake band names so it didn't look like the whole set was recorded by one person?
