Slippery handle?

Hi kettlebell people,

Novice here. I had bought some kettlebells during covid. I knew nothing, chose based on the look and local availability and ended up with those in 12, 16, 20 kg
https://www.gladiatorfit.ch/de/produkt/kettlebell-aus-stahl-mit-pulverbeschichtung-gladiatorfit/

Not labelled as "competition" but all the same sizes, "just nicely enough" powder coated cast iron, super nice shape and feeling, and I caught the bug quite fast.

Fast forward a couple years, I discovered Indian clubs, maces, mugdar, etc, and let the kettlebells accumulate dust. So I sold them.

Last week, on a whim, I decided to order a new one, and went with this: https://www.fitcom.ch/en/product/competition-kettlebell/

I… do not like it. I try to, but I do not.

The shiny steel handle is super slippery, and coupled with my novice form and technique, I have the feeling every move is super awkward, I constantly fear it will fly across the room. Even I simple suitcase carry involves way more "effort" than it should.

So… is it a symptom of a bad product/brand? or is that a normal thing with those kind of kettlebells, and something I have to adjust to, train a better grip and stop whining? Should I sand the handle to make it slightly rougher and grippier?

Or should I move on, admit I do not like it and probably will not train as much as I would otherwise, sell it, and buy back the ones I liked?

Thanks for your thoughts and advices.

Swollen finger

Hi reddit whippet people.

My 1.5 y.o. Whippet limped out of her bed this morning, and does not put much weight on the left front leg.

Yesterday morning, she ran like a lunatic, jumped and swam in the river, I did not see anything weird, and we did a small walk on leash on asphalt late afternoon, she seemed totally fine.

Upon inspection, she has some scratches on the knuckles (I am baffled I have not seen it yesterday, I wipe her paws every time we enter the house ), and one finger is clearly swollen. She does not especially react with obvious pain signs to the touch / manipulation, but I absolutely can't say if it is some "benign" finger sprain, a minor fracture or something else.

Beside keeping her at rest (thankfully she does not seem eager to do anything except sleeping for now ), could I do something?

How long may I wait to see if it gets better before I should call a vet? If I trust my gut, I would rush in this afternoon, but she just had more than her fair share of medical attention a couple weeks ago, with a dozen stitches and all the drama that comes with that (ran like a lunatic straight down a steep forest slope…)

Thanks for your advices.

Sizing?

Hi,

I have been wearing Vivos for more than a decade now, and I always ordered EU size 42. Perfect fit, on any model from any range.

But my last Primus Trail FR 3.5, ordered last year, were definitely bigger and roomier, to the point I almost found them too big without big socks. Primus Lite Knit Natural ordered at the same time are absolutely perfect.

I have just received the email about a 50% off selected models, and I am considering buying a pair of Primus Trail Knit FG, plus a spare pair of my beloved Primus Lite Knit Natural.

The size guide chart says 41… But considering the Primus Lite Knit Natural are such a perfect fit in 42, and I had always 42… unless my feet are shrinking, I am second guessing the whole thing.

Any advice and opinion on this very serious first world problem?

--

edit: I could / should have started with that, but I end up having a chat with Vivo support, and they told me that the Primus Trail Knit FG are "true to size" and that I should order my usual size. So, despite the chart saying 41, I still went with 42, and cross my fingers toes.

Examples that are not "dreamy-cheesy-hippy"?

Hi,

Long story short, 20 years ago I was really tempted to buy a Hang from Panart, but I was a broke student, it was really expensive and the process sounded complicated with a long waiting list, so I let it go. Then life took me elsewhere, but this instrument kept calling my name.

I think this time it is right, and I probably will buy one Handpan soon.

So I am in the process of re-discovering this instrument, watching videos, listening to scales, comparing makers, etc.

Maybe my tastes changed and evolved, maybe the algorithm is stuck in its recommendations, but it seems I stumble in the vast majority on the same kind of music. Dreamy, "mystical", "soothing", ethereal melodies, that, to be honest, I feel a bit cliche/boring after 2 minutes.

I know a Handpan is no conga, but I realise I do not care much for long complex evolving melodies with a ton a notes by musicians showing off their dexterity skills. I know it is part of the DNA of the instrument, but I have a bit the feeling that it is way too often ends in the same new-age chakra-cleaning generic soundtrack if I may try to define it without sounding too much like a dick…

I like more simple, repetitive grooves. Do you have good recommendations of examples with "less notes, and more rhythm"? The techno of the Handpan world?

Thank you.
