Weird American Traits

I’ve only just realised that America changed maritime laws in the 1980’s to be different to everyone else.
The rest of the world always required ships entering a harbour to keep the red marker on the left and the green on the right. In the 1970’s a huge shipping accident occured and there was an attempt to standardise the system but America wouldn’t agree. To this day they abide by the complete opposite with green on the left entering a harbour.

Meanwhile most of the world uses metric measurements but America had to be different and uses imperial.

What other weird alterations did America make to the established world order in its history?
