What does this thing do

There's just this random block on top and I have no idea what its for

EDIT: People keep saying its a charging handle but the charging handle in question is literally on the ejection port. I have a 3D printed Morita at home and that's clearly what its supposed to be.

EDIT 2: Alright I guess it really is the charging handle. Sorry for the confusion but thanks for clearing it up.

Yes

The lower flag is that of the Intergalactic Federation of Man, which is the main faction in my project. While anyone over the age of 21 can vote, in order to be eligible to run for and hold public office, you must complete one term of federal service. This does not necessarily mean military service though. It may include the work in the government, law enforcement or other emergency services, public works, etc. Basically anything that benefits the wider Federation.

The Battle of New Berlin (3081)

So the Battle of New Berlin was a large engagement between the Intergalactic Federation of Man and the Procyon Collective in the City of New Berlin on Zeta-IX. The Federation, in a panic, kinda just threw armor and bodies at the problem and hoped for the best. Somehow, miraculously, they successfully defended the city. :p

The Fourth Internationale in 2570

By the late 26th century, Neo-Soviet hegemony had reached its peak. Its decades-long conquest of Eurasia had been largely successful, with the original Warsaw Pact's boundaries nearly being secured, along with several other communist puppet states far beyond what the Old Union could have ever hoped to achieve. However, as the Soviets prepared to make their advance on the Federation of Europe, they failed to consider one nation: The New United States of America. With their eventual involvement in the Second Eurasian War following Soviet missile strikes on American soil, the Internationale would suffer a near collapse, leaving the NUSSR as the sole communist power on the globe.

The F21 is an advanced service rifle produced for the Intergalactic Federation Armed Forces by Mustang Arms in the late 31st century.

The weapon was in its early design phase in the late 3040s to early ‘50s, and was planned to enter service with the New United States. However, when Earth was ultimately destroyed in 3051, the project had to be postponed. However, in the post-earth era, Mustang Arms opted to continue development of the weapon.

The F21 was ready by March 3055, and the Federation’s Ministry of Defense immediately ordered 400,000,000 units. An estimated one hundred billion F21 rifles have been produced in the years since.

They usually cost about F$ 450,000 to produce.

It was initially intended for vehicle armor penetration, but has since been tweaked to effectively penetrate the titanium-alloy wings of the Disassembly Drones that plague the galaxy.

(Fun fact) In terms of function, it’s quite interesting (at least in my opinion). The cartridges it fires are solid caseless ammunition, much like the Gyrojet, but scaled up to rifle size. When the primer is ignited, the cartridge is pushed forward by the force of the exhaust leaving through slots in the back. As it enters the barrel, the cartridge is accelerated by a series of coils, giving it a significant boost.

(Not so fun fact) Though it has similar safety systems to the G-11 in terms of misaligned cartridges and such, these could fail on earlier models, often resulting in an explosion. Though this has since been fixed, several Federal soldiers were injured or killed as a result.

Almost all human characters in The Return of Mankind will use this item.

Most Federal soldiers love this thing and swear by it as the best weapon in the galaxy.

It will appear throughout the main story of TRoM, as it is the standard issue service rifle of the Intergalactic Federation of Man, who are the main human faction in the story.

EDIT: So I lowkey forgot to add this but uh

since my handwriting is garbage, here’s what the info about the tactical display is supposed to say

“Projected on a small hologram. It features:

Ammo Counter

Compass

Clock

Ballistic Calculator

Grenade Programming (If launcher is attached)

And more.”
