Opinions on apartments

Hi all,

I will likely be moving to the twin cities in the next month or two for a new job, so I’ve been looking at apartments online to prepare! I have come up with a list that all seem to check my must haves (parking options and in unit laundry being the big ones). If anyone has experience (good or bad!!) they’re willing to share with any of these places, or if there are any other recommendations, I’d appreciate it!! I know Google reviews, especially for apartments, can be heavily skewed in both directions. I’m especially interested in feedback I may not necessarily observe in a tour (eg, very noisy traffic nearby). TIA!!

Year anniversary causing anxiety

Exactly one year ago tonight I woke up with my bilateral pulmonary embolism. For the past few days I’ve had heart palpitations and chest pain, but my heart rate, sleeping respiration rate, and blood oxygen are perfectly fine. I think it’s psychosomatic- has anyone else experienced something similar? I guess I know logically the anniversary was coming up but I didn’t fully realize it was tonight until just now. Maybe my brain subconsciously knew. I’ve dealt with anxiety my whole life, but I’ve always managed it by finding or working toward “solutions”. But there’s not really a “solution” for this, it’s something that happened and that could possibly happen again in the future, and there’s not much I can do about it.

For reference, I am on a low dose eliquis (my d dimer finally returned to normal levels), and I also happen to be in a pretty stressful/transitory period in my life for other reasons. I guess I’m just wondering if other people have had… flare ups (?) around anniversaries. Maybe it’s a form of PTSD? Logically I know that being on the blood thinners means I’m extremely unlikely to clot again, but I have diagnosed OCD so it’s hard to keep the dread thoughts from spiraling. Not really sure what I’m hoping to get out of this post, but maybe others have gone through something similar.

Sticky platelet syndrome

I (F25) had a pulmonary embolism a year ago that the ER doctors said was due to my hormonal birth control but my hematologist said it was likely just unprovoked. I just learned my grandfather and great grandfather both had something called sticky platelet syndrome, which gave them heart attacks. Why I wasn’t told this a year ago, I’ll never know.

I’ve messaged my hematologist, but I’m just curious if anyone knows anything about this syndrome or has any thoughts. Not knowing what caused my clots has been driving me crazy with anxiety for a year now, so I’m really trying to learn as much as I can about this possibility now that I finally have a lead. For reference, I asked my hematologist months ago about genetic testing, but he said insurance usually only covers that if you’ve had two unprovoked PEs.

I’ve been including a customized cover letter for each job I apply to, even though most don’t explicitly require it. It’s becoming a bit tedious though, and I’m wondering if anyone has any insight on if cover letters actually get read, if they’re skimmed over by AI, or ignored completely? Obviously there’s not going to be one consistent answer across the board, but just curious if anyone knows of a general trend.

For context, I have a PhD and am applying mostly for state/local government jobs (though some private consulting positions).
