Moving Forward Again

It’s been a little bit since I posted an update on how things are going for me. I still have no insurance, but it looks like the hospital a couple hours away updated their financial assistance program and my application was finally approved. I talked with my surgeon today via virtual visit.

The surgeon wants to biopsy a lymph node on the right side (so far only the left side has had anything biopsied). The current plan is a total thyroidectomy, left central neck dissection, and left modified radical neck dissection levels 2-4, with the possibility for the right side as well if the biopsy shows anything over there.

Waiting to hear back from scheduling to move forward more, but glad it’s not standing still like it has been for so many months now.

I know nothing about life insurance

*Please answer like you are talking to someone who has no knowledge of life insurance or life insurance terminology*

I (41F) am disabled (working on a disability case currently) and work occasionally as a substitute teacher. I have fibromyalgia and arthritis among other issues that make a regular job difficult anymore.

My spouse (45M) works full time (low income , ~$35k-$40k). Without his job we wouldn’t be able to afford our mortgage (~$100k owed still). We also have about $10k in debt we are slowly paying off.

I doubt I can get any life insurance on myself as I was diagnosed with cancer 6 months ago and am still awaiting financial assistance approval to be able to get any kind of treatment.

On the chance that my husband were to pass before me I would be screwed. I can’t cover the mortgage and other expenses without his income. Ideally I am looking for the best option that would at least pay off the house and $10k of debt. I’m not sure if I am missing some other significant piece of this puzzle or what type of insurance I need or whatever.

Medical Tourism

Hi from USA. I have no insurance and am starting to think of possible alternatives in case my financial assistance applications are denied. Do any of you have any experience with medical tourism for a TT with affected lymph nodes?

I’m struggling tonight

I wrote out a long post and my app decided to refresh and it’s gone. I think I feel more frustrated now and have no desire to write all of that out again.

Facts:
• PTC with a BRAF mutation
• PTC confirmed in at least one lymph node
• No insurance
• Financial Assistance Applications suck and take forever to process

People ask a lot of questions I can’t answer because I’m in limbo waiting for answers myself. I have been waiting months for my current financial assistance applications to process and may still have to wait more months.

I’m tired. I have no answers. I’m tired of jumping through hoops and then having to wait months for someone to get to what I am required to do in a week. I wish I was on the other side of all of this but tonight it feels like that will never happen.

• Nodule found ~ 5 years ago, likely benign initial FNA
• Lost insurance ~3 years ago, most recent thyroid ultrasound August 2025
• February 2026 FNA >95% risk PTC, BRAF+
• June 2026 lymph node biopsy PTC+

Business Start-Up Questions

I want to start a business I can do myself at home. I want to start with T-shirts (and possibly bumper stickers?) and eventually add more types of products if feasible.

I have some designs and general concepts in my head, but I don’t want to have to use someone else for printing—I would rather do it all in house and ship directly to people.

I don’t want to take in bad information, so I thought asking people with more experience would be the best place to begin as I have no clue how to get started or what printing method would be best for someone on a budget.

I would really also like to set things up from the start to give back to people (cancer patients, no kill animal shelters, etc). Do any of you run anything like this? What percent of your profits do you donate while still able to successfully run a business?

Hey everyone I am a relatively newer player—began the first half of January. I completely missed the event with the clovers this year due to health issues and would really like to make at least one rainbow from that event. I wasn’t sure if anyone had leftover clovers from the event they wouldn’t mind sharing?
