So this has been on my mind for a while.
When I was 17–18, I had my first real girlfriend. We were crazy about each other and honestly pretty serious for our age. We had our share of problems, broke up and got back together a couple of times, but we always found our way back to each other.
During our last years in school, we got really close. We kissed, sexted, spent a lot of time together, all that stuff. Looking back, I genuinely loved her back then.
After school, though, life took us in different directions. We were focused on different things, and somewhere along the way my feelings changed. There wasn’t a big fight or anything. I just slowly stopped seeing her as someone I wanted a future with.
We didn’t completely lose touch though. We stayed in contact here and there, mostly as friends. Then at some point we started sexting again. It wasn’t planned, it just kind of happened. And honestly, we’ve been doing it on and off for years now.
The thing is, I think she still has feelings for me.
Maybe I’m wrong, but sometimes the way she talks to me, the effort she makes to stay connected, and how quickly she falls back into that intimate vibe makes me feel like part of her still wants us to be together.
The problem is… I don’t feel the same way anymore.
I care about her a lot. I enjoy talking to her. I enjoy the sexting too. But if I’m being honest with myself, I don’t see a future relationship with her.
So now I’m wondering if I’m being selfish by continuing this. If she still loves me and I’m just here for the connection and the sexual side of things, am I leading her on without meaning to?
Has anyone else been in a situation like this? What happened?
