The family all together

Monochrome 4th gen with a 5,000mAh battery and 256GB flash mod. My daily driver and personal fav of the bunch.

Clear & black 5.5th gen, 3,000 mAh battery & 500GB Quad. My first modded iPod

And finally my first ever modern iPod, a fully stock 7th gen 80GB. It was a gift from my gf at the time so thanks to her I’m madly obsessed with iPods. Can’t bring myself to mod it, still use it from time to time

I have a few nanos and such floating around but these are my classics.

Palm TX - proprietary charger only?

Hi all, recently got a palm TX and didn’t read the description properly (my fault!) to see it came sans charger.

I got it today and was very keen to use it, but it also came sans charge. What can you do.

Is there any other way to charge it? Like another adapter or anything or is it only a proprietary lead?

Thanks

CloudPilotEmu - how to sync with Palm III (is it even possible?)

Hi all, recent 3Com Palm III acquisition and all that fun stuff.

I have used CloudPilotEmu for a number of years but have never had an actual Palm device to try and hotsync to.

Please forgive my total ignorance with this matter, I could be totally misreading what’s on GitHub. I see that you can supposedly sync between CPEMU and Palm devices.

I’m at a total loss as to how to do this. My device never came with a cradle or serial port cable, so I was hoping I could sync over network or similar.

If someone could post a complete “for dummies” guide I’d be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Palm III - Tips to preserve battery life and other questions

Hi all, new owner of a Palm III. I lucked out on eBay after acquiring a “sold as is - untested” one for a bit of history. I have always wanted a PDA since I first heard of them. I’m 32 now and that was a long time ago. I really took a chance but it worked out cause it obviously works perfectly.

Anyway few questions for you if that’s cool:

  1. Can I use modern rechargeable AAAs or is it safest to use normal non chargeable ones?
  2. Do you get any “grace period” when you have to change batteries? I.e few seconds to minutes while you swap them out?
  3. On that note - do you lose all data when you run out of batteries completely like other organisers of that era or before? (Looking at you Psion…)
  4. Under normal conditions how long is a set of average AAAs expected to last?
  5. It didn’t come with a cradle but I’m thinking of trawling eBay when I get paid for one or keeping an eye open. How much am I missing out by not hawing one?

I have just started a new job as a cleaner and I am using the to do list as my task list for work and stuff and I find it so helpful for my ADHD riddled brain to physically check off items as I go.

Anyway thanks a bunch!

NB: also what’s the deal with people not testing them to sell them? Wouldn’t you think it’d fetch a much higher price if it’s in working condition? Anyway your loss buddy…

I just opened the case with two guitar picks - the pink Tortex 0.46mm kind. I debated it but was forced into it as my SD card failed on literally the first day (though it was second hand but not used) of me owning it.

It took a few tries to get everything right after some formatting issues. **Must be in FAT32 format!!!**

I have no technical know how. This was the first electronic device I’ve ever opened and tinkered with. Not a mark on it from the picks. Everything in working order afterwards.

Pretty happy. My only regret is not chucking a 1 or 2TB card in there only a 512GB but it’ll do for now.

Hopefully the Y2 when it comes out vastly improves on the design with user upgradable storage (promised) and self ease of access to self repair (would be neat).

Anyway, if you’re in a pinch and you’re doubting yourself with the right tools and a bit of patience you can do it. Just need 2 picks, a Philips 00 screwdriver & a good wine.

Enjoy!
