What are your thoughts on Nike flying almost every shoe reviewer out to their HQ for the Caitlin 1s and LeBron 24s?

I get that shoes are sent out to reviewers and have been for years, but I’ve never seen a PR push from any company as big as the recent one Nike did for the Caitlin 1’s and the upcoming LeBron 24s.

Literally flying in dozens of shoe reviewers and influencers and giving them a multi-day expenses paid access to their HQs, shoes, parties, and who knows what else.

Would you still hold the opinion of any of the flown in reviewers as true regarding the Caitlin 1’s and LeBron 24s.

I guess for me it’s given the entire release of these two shoes a giant asterisk when it comes to finding sources that weren’t inherently influenced by the trip. It’s honestly had the opposite effect that Nike probably wanted because it’s only sown doubt, at least for me.

Final Reviews for my 2026 pickups - Ja 3, Kobe 6 All-Stars, DON Issue 7, Joker 2, Swiftace, WoW 12

Ja 3s, I never gave an initial review...

  • ...but I have since picked up two additional pairs so I can safely say I love them. Size correctly (make sure they're snug) and properly break in the uppers and you'll have very few containment issues. They do sometimes get a bit tight around the midfoot, though, particularly if I'm wearing them a day or so after keg day when my feet are a bit more swollen. Otherwise, great cushioning that does bottom out a bit faster than you'd want, amazing traction, and bar none the best Nike looking shoe of the past half decade in my personal opinion. Now I have two pairs for basketball and one pair, the Raptors, for just for casual wear.

  • Final Score: Basketball - 8.5 / 10, Lifestyle : 9.1 / 10

Kobe 6 All-Stars, initial review : 8.3 / 10

  • Everything about the shoe is nostalgia city, and once the initial honeymoon wore off I can't say they're particularly my go-to's. Cushioning is only above average and the fit is still as tight and unforgiving as my memory. Plus the translucent outsole has only diminished over time. Still, a stunning looker and it's since transitioned to a casual shoe that still turns heads.

  • Final Score: Basketball - 7 / 10, Lifestyle - 9.5 / 10

DON Issue 7, initial review : 6.7 / 10

  • Truly a Jeckyl and Hyde of a shoe for me. When they work, they work so damn well. But when they don't they're essentially ice skates. Like the Kobe's these have since transitioned over to a casual shoe. I would've liked them to be a work out shoe but even in the weight room they slip and slide any time I'd use them fort squats or plyos. But just walking around work and shopping? Super comfortable. Sometimes a little too flashy for a lot of my fits, but when they do go well they're just as much of a head turner as the Kobes.

  • Final Score: Basketball - 5.7 / 10, Lifestyle - 8.2 / 10

Joker 2 Reverse, initial review : 7.8 / 10

  • A great middle of the road, Jack of All Trades type of shoe. Good fit, good traction, plush cushioning. The styling on the Reverse pair is great as well. They've become a mainstay as a kind of recovery shoe on days I know I'm not goung to be moving around too quickly or doing too much jumping - AKA, being a short centre lol. For that purpose these shoes will never fail you. They're dependable and built like tanks, though a bit heavy like one too. I've noticed that after prolonged use though that they are a bit clunky and the weight does start becoming noticeable after a couple of hours of continuous use compared to lighter shoes.

  • Final Score: Basketball - 7.5 / 10

ASICS Swiftace, initial review : 8.4 / 10

  • The shoe I probably went too easy on in my initial reviews. After a number of longer runs I can say the cushioning in these shoes is almost non-existent and they fit tighter than the Kobes. But I surprisingly found an exceptional use for them - They've since become my powerliftng shoes due to how extremely stable they are. They're built extraordinarily well and can handle the pressures of a 400lbs squat with no worries at all.

  • Final Score: Basketball - 6.5 / 10, Weights - 9.5 / 10

WOW 12 Liberty, initial review : 8.4 / 10

  • I was giving those 8s out like candy lol. But this shoe definitely defied my expectations. I didn't expect Super Boom to be much better than regular Boom. Just a marketing gimmick. But these things made me fly. Or at least feel like I'm ten years younger. They're light, well built, look great, and the cushioning may very well be the best Ive ever used in a basketball shoe. If only that traction was a bit better this might be my favourite shoe of all time.

  • Final Score: Basketball - 9.3 / 10

FDZ cuts open the Volanti Rocket Air 911 and it just straight up has Zoom Air

Kinda surprised him and me that Volanti is either licensing it or just straight up stealing Zoom Air.

WOW 12 Liberty restock unboxing and initial impressions

So no one really expected Wade to bring back the earlier colourways but they came out a week ago with a very surprising restock of the Liberty and Obsidian colours. Because I lost out during the initial launch (more focused on daughter being born than shoes at the time) I was really excited to have a chance to pick these up at under MSRP, because ain’t no way I was ever going to pay the resell sticker price for a pair of Wade’s.

Here’s a very, very, very late collection of unboxing photos and early impressions after an hour of shooting around and then another house of weight room/treadmill afterwards.

Colourway: WOW 12 Liberty (although officially “Island Paradise” on the QR code validity check)

Size: 26.5cm, US 8.5

Shoe Weight: 320 grams (11.3 oz) right shoe, 322 grams left shoe. Definitely a very light weight.

Price: 25,600 yen ($157) after various coupons during the last AliExpress sale event.

Personal Stats: 39yo / 174cm / 73kg / 85 in reach / 36 inch vert in my old age

Looks - 9.3 / 10: Probably the number one reason I picked these shoes up. I love the turquoise and gold combo, and I think Wade did it even better than the Kobe 6 Brunson’s. The design of the shoe just screams class. Only reason it’s not getting a perfect score is the medial side is kind of boring. I get that it’s the side that’s not really seen but I still like it when shoes have little Easter eggs or hype details there anyways.

Materials - 7.7 / 10: Synthetic everything, and thin synthetics at that. But it’s definitely not a cheap feeling shoe. Definitely doesn’t feel the price it comes at MSRP, but they feel like they’ll last and I understand why they went the way they did to cut the weight down so significantly. But when you just look at it, it still gives off the veneer of premium.

Cushion - 9.6 / 10: I admit I didn’t do a lot of extremely movements this time around but I did give it the some good hustle and a dozen or so max effort jumps and they felt like I was cheating with how springboard like they felt. The Super Boom with a carbon fiber plate sandwiched lived up to its reputation. These are probably the best feeling underfoot shoe I’ve ever played in. I felt like I jumped higher, grabbing rim almost right off the bat while other shoes need me to be a bit more warmed up. And the landings felt nice too, which is usually a surprise if I’m using explosive based foams because they tend not to be the softest. Only reason it’s not perfect is I can feel that the full length carbon fibre plate probably will come back to bite me in the butt down the road during longer sessions.

Fit - 8.4 / 10: These are a snug fit around the midfoot, but nothing egregious. The lightweight materials actually makes it feel like it’s compression sleeve rather then being strangled. Because of that the lockdown is fantastic. But what I didn’t expect was the shoe running long. I personally like something shy of a thumb at the end of my shoes, and these at TTS gave me about a thumb and a half. But with hot tight the fit everywhere else is I don’t think I’d recommend going half a size down either because then it might actually becoming stifling.

Traction - 7 / 10: Knowing these were half GCU, half traditional rubber they gripped about how I expected on the court I generally use - kinda bad on the GCU segment, really nice on the rubber. I know, should be the opposite right? But for whatever reason my past GCU shoes never worked really well and it’s the same here as well. Not as slip out prone, probably due to the regular rubber helping out, but I can feel it just not sticking to the floor as well as it should be.

Initial Score - 8.4 / 10

First review I’ve found of the Sabrina 4, and it’s looking bad. Heaviest shoe in the line yet

I’m a fan of Shoeit’s reviews because he gets shoes so early and he isn’t afraid to tear into them. In this case it seems the Sabrina 4’s a pretty underwhelming and somehow heavier than the previous three.

Edit: It feels like people haven’t actually watched the review. The weight was just the entrance way into the rest of the critiques, which focuses on the isoplate being back implemented and how with the A’Twos on the market that offers what the Sabrina 4 should have (a Zoom Turbo unit instead of the thin one it does have), that there’s no reason to get the Sabrina 4 because the better Sabrina 4 is already available.

The weight critique is more about why a shoe with such minimal tech needs to be so heavy. You can justify a heavier shoe if the materials are premium or the tech is great. The 4’s have neither.

Air Jordan 41 tech layout

Sorry for the cut off image. It’s a screenshot of a post that was a screenshot of somewhere else lol.

But we can still see the full layout of the upcoming AJ41, and it looks like a beast. Literally all of Nike’s best tech all crammed together. Zoom in the heel, Zoom strobe up front, under some ZoomX pods, encased in a Cushlon 3.0 carrier.

Just a heads up, but Li-Ning’s official AliEx store has restocks of WOW12 Obsidian and Liberty

Just put a purchase in for a US8.5 Liberty last night after seeing both colourways getting a surprise restock. Kinda gave up ever getting the Liberty’s after they sold out their first run and definitely wasn’t going to pay resale prices for Wade’s. So glad to see them restocked and have Ali coupon’s applicable to save a bit of money too.

Of course I won’t fully feel like this isn’t a glitch in their system until the shoes ship, but it’s been two days now and the listings are still live.

Sorry no linking AE because Reddit automatically censors it. Just search for Wade’s and they should come up. Seems only the Official store has restocks, not the Global store.

ASICs Swiftace Bloom Burst colourway initial impressions

Picked up the newly released Bloom Burst colourway of the Swiftace yesterday and was able to give them a quick hour on court today as well as an hour in the weight room doing compounds.

Looks - 8.5 / 10: I think these look beautiful. I was pretty critical about the initial Swiftace release, not being a fan of the colours and thinking the design was lazy and just copied way too many elements from ASICs’ own Sky Elite FF 3. But with this new flower based colourway I think they did a tasteful job covering up the boring design underneath with something that both pops but isn’t too in your face.

Support - 9.5 / 10 : Because they take so much from the Sky Elite FF3, a shoe that’s amongst my favourite of all time, the support is just as good. Extremely ample midfoot shank “Truss” system means your foot is not going anywhere. No fear of ankle rolls with rock solid torsional stability and a nice phalange.

Fit and Weight - 7.5 / 10 : One thing that did change a bit is the heel shape. This time around it’s using an external heel counter ala the Kobe 6’s but it feels like the actual curvature of the underlying heel cup is a bit too wide. Whereas my foot was locked in in ASICs other shoes, there was mild heel slippage here. Even with a runners knot the shoe still loosened up about half an hour in and I could feel a bit of slipping. It’s nothing dangerous or annoying, but it’s unusual for an ASICs. Also, definitely go down half a size. Like other ASICs shoes, they run long. I usually have to go down half a size from my Nike TTS, and even then they still run a smidgen long. Also note they are on the heavier side. 390 grams for a US size 8.

Traction - 10 / 10 : It’s the exact same rubber compound that ASICs uses in all of their court shoes and as always it’s stellar. Extremely tacky, sometimes to a dangerous extent until your wear them down a bit.

Cushion - 6.5 / 10 : This was my biggest criticism when the shoe was initially unveiled, and on feet the fears played out exactly as I thought they would. ASICs has made some pretty big strides in court shoe cushioning. My Sky Elite FF3s and Nova Surge 3s both have their newer FF Blast + foam that is extremely stable with similar energy return to PEBA foams. The Swiftace, though, settles from Flytefoam in the rear and FF Propel in the forefoot. Both are the company’s past generation offerings, which is weird to have in your more expensive “flagship” shoe when the cheaper models below it have better tech. It’d be akin to the next Lebron’s getting a React midsole while the the GT Cut Academy’s getting ZoomX. They give extremely stable and predictable feel, and on that front I actually like it when my legs are fresh, but this could be considered an extreme court feel shoe.

Initial Score : 42 / 50, or 8.4 / 10

Anyone get reps into Japan recently? If so, how?

So I asked about a year ago but not many people knew, so wondering if anyone has tried to ship reps into the country recently.

The state of affairs starting 2023 was a massive crackdown on imitation goods, especially on packages shipping out of China. Turned a lot of hauls, big or small, into what were essentially coin tosses. Had to stop after getting a pair flagged in 2024, knowing my address would also be flagged for a time afterwards, despite doing all the due diligence of getting them through (no rep box, proper declarations, no tags, etc).

Just wondering what the current state of affairs is two years from then and if you've gotten pairs through customs recently, which seller did you use and what shipping method?

It’s Golden Week in Japan so that means a lot of shoes going on sale. Not sure about other places but the Ja 3 Raptors and Explorers are sitting on shelves here so we’re the first to be discounted. Picked these XDR Raptors up for 11,500 yen (just under $75 USD) earlier today to be my third pair of Ja’s and primarily my outdoor walk arounds due to the sturdier rubber. If you’re in Japan right now definitely hit up Alpen Sports, physical or online.
