Aggressive male lost its mate, need help

Hi, I've posted here a few times before. Over two months ago, we separated a mated pair after the male injured her badly. He's usually calm, but suddenly became much more aggressive at the time. The female had grown too weak from picking at her wound - despite our best efforts, we lost her last night. The male doesn't know yet, because as much as they beeped and wanted to see each other, we didn't want to risk him picking on her.

What's the best thing to do in this case? We have two other pairs in the house, so he's not completely alone. Should I leave her body in his cage and let him come to terms with it? We're worried he'll pick on his next mate if we bring him one, but zebra finches won't live a rewarding life on their own. We're kind of lost.

Injured finch - what happened?

I woke up to see my bird like this. We'll be taking her to the vet tomorrow, but I'm wondering what we can do for her in the meantime. She sings, eats, and drinks like normal, but she's leaned a little bit on one leg for about a week (we thought it was a calcium issue and gave her some). Her mate was hormonal/aggressive towards her a few days ago, but seemed to have stopped since then. Any precautions we should take for now? Could this wound get any worse? If it turns out her mate did this, we'll separate them asap
