Thoughts on Influencers

Wanted to get this group’s thoughts on influencers. Of course it’s important to not blindly listen to any of them, and you should ALWAYS just buy what smells good to you.

Having said that, it’s nice getting the thoughts of people that are relatively well-versed in what you’re looking to buy or learning about things that might not even be on your radar yet. The thing is, all influencers are NOT created equal and I trust/like some more than others.

My personal favorite is actually not pictured. Hamza Saab gives insightful reviews in a passionate way and then gets honest reactions on those fragrances. He doesn’t seem to be “selling” the fragrances in any way. Just reviewing and getting public opinion.

Justin Copeland is another I like for mostly the same reasons, and then Gents Scents I like, but more for entertainment purposes.

One I actively don’t trust at all is Curly. I liked the first 2-3 videos I saw, but I feel like you can quickly see she’s a true “shill”, who will recommend and say basically anything if it gets her an extra buck.

So are there any you really trust? Ones you watch for entertainment? One you appreciate a certain format for? One you loathe?

Who’s got the best cherries?

Trying to find the best cherry fragrance. That scent that is masculine enough to feel confident wearing, but fits perfectly on date nights with your favorite lady.

Not always easy as the cherry note can get overly syrupy and give off a cough medicine vibe if not done right. My current top picks are below:

Guerlain- L’Homme Idéal Eau de Parfum
Initio- Narcotic Delight
Mind Games- French Defense
Tom Ford- Cherry Smoke

Are these top tier? Any other recommendations worth trying? Does that scent lend itself better to special occasions/dates or do you wear it as a daily driver? Curious who you think has the best cherries.

Pacific Rock Moss Clones

Goldfield & Banks’ Pacific Rock Moss was the scent that got me into colognes. Truly a wonderful scent, but like most people who tried PRM, I found the longevity to be a bit of an issue. I don’t know if this will be helpful to anyone else, but I have tried sampling the major clones for the best options.

So Pacific Rock Moss has got that stellar opening, but it’s true how poor the performance is since it really does evaporate to nothing after 45-60 min. I love it and it will always hold a place in my heart. But the performance is so bad it is hard to just look past that flaw.

French Avenue’s Ravine Ice is the closest 1:1 of PRM. It’s got a bright citrusy opening, maybe even a little extra citrusy, but just like PRM, it’s pretty non-existent after an hour or so. So even though it’s the closest clone, it’s still not my favorite. Still a good option if your looking to get the PRM experience on a budget.

Montagne’s Pacific Moss is my least favorite of the bunch. It’s “fine”, but the opening is no where near as strong as the first two. It just falls a little flat when comparing them back to back, and then a pretty boring dry down makes it feel overall kinda forgettable to me.

Nusuk’s Sama turned out to be my personal favorite of all four. It has a bright opening, but then that geranium and sea-moss in the dry down is addicting and perfectly replicates that coastal seaside scent. Performance is moderate, but definitely the best of the 4. This was the only one that made me feel like I smelled like a coastal stroll along the Italian Riviera.

No wrong answers here, they are all good for a hot summer day, but I just wanted to put this out there in case it helps anyone with their search.
