“Unread”

Why are all my current applications sitting unread? They are all for Los Angeles. Is this just a flaky city in general? Granted, the sit isn’t until October, but why aren’t people a little more anxious to see who is interested in watching their beloved pets? I just don’t understand it. The theoretical excuse of “I was on vacation when I created the listing” just doesn’t clock.

Should I leave a bad review on Yelp for sub par service--please read

I need advice. I recently had my car detailed by a young man who was the owner of the company and he told me he was trained by his father. He looks barely into his twenties. I saw his video on reels and was impressed so I reached out. He was advertising a special promotion and his video looked great for thoroughness. When we spoke, I told him I needed extra care on my car due to some mold on the sunroof found by a mold inspector. We made an appt for an on-site review and quote. On the day of the appt he texted me he was running so late that he preferred to skip the appt. I was very disappointed and let him know that I was only interested in personalized service. So, we did a facetime video instead, so he could send me a quote. His quote was for almost double the promotional fee but I scheduled the appt anyway.

He was 30 minutes late for the appointment. Then he and his young co-worker got to work on my car while I worked inside the house. When they told me they were done, 4 hours later, I came out to review the work. They had missed many things, especially the grit around the sunroom track that I was paying extra for. They did a lousy job on the top of the car with a lot of visible dirt and grime still there. I pointed out several other missed areas. And, I asked them to fix all of it, especially the two things I paid extra for! He proceed to knock on my door two minutes later. Things had not been corrected. Then, he kept knocking in a series of short iterations after that. Finally I said, please take 15 minutes to correct these things. He informed me he didn't have the time. I then said, then I can't pay you the full amount. I also went into my house to grab a "tool" for them to use to make the dirt go away - the rough side of a household sponge. I even demonstrated to them that this new tool did the job.

They were only using a poly rag at this point. I had to jump in and help! I was so disgusted by the end of it all, I asked them, "well did you learn something today?" His answer was that this detail took longer than any other. That wasn't what I meant.

Here I am a week later and I'm still reeling from the experience because when putting things back into my car I discovered three more ignored areas and sent the young owner before and after pics of my doing the cleaning with a note that I still feel ripped off and he should give me some of my money back.

No response. The right thing to do would be to admit they did a sub-par job and refund me something. But they have done nothing.

I want to leave them a factual honest review on Yelp. What should I do? They know where I live.

HO's: Make locating the pet food easy

I am set to go to another sit, and wanted to mention something so basic but it seems some HO's overlook. Simply where to find the cat food in the kitchen. I only sit cats and have done many sits through TH. When I have left my own cat under someone else's care, I put all her food, bowls, and the forks I use for cat food out on the counter, plain to see, and labeled her regimen. I wanted to use this forum as a gentle reminder to do something similar so the sitter doesn't have to open all your cupboards looking for the cat food. I have arrived in the evening to a sit where the kitty hadn't eaten all day, and have had to search high and low (and deep into crowded pantries) for the cat food. It's just the most basic of tasks for a HO to make easy for a sitter. That's all.

Euthanasia

Is it too much to expect an appointment time? Six years ago when I had to have a cat euthanised who was very ill, and in retrospect, I should’ve let him die on his own because he was very close to dying. I had to wait that excruciating two hours in that window they give you not knowing when the person would arrive and here he is dying on my lap. I don’t want to go through that again and yet I’m now faced with my beloved 19 year-old cat who’s on her way out and I need to have that service, but I can’t find one that will make an actual appointment for me. I keep wanting it to be very personalised and it really just isn’t. Help!
