One of the features of Kashmiri is the letter cx/ʦ in words like cxot/ʦot (bread). While it's also present in languages like Greek, Japanese, and even Nepali, it's absent in both Urdu and English

Instead of regarding the articulation of this sound as a mark (and possibly test) of native Kashmiri speak, we often choose to replace this sound to accommodate non-speakers hiding behind the pretext of a dedicated letter in English

The result is that Sumos go to Chadoora instead of Cxoder/ ʦoder, a well known shop near Jamia Masjid has a board that reads 'Chonka' but everyone calls them Cxonke/ ʦonke and your search finds no results if you type "Cxuri Cxolham Yawan Cxur Cxuri lo lo"

Words for without/-less/except/instead/in place of

Rostii: without (eg shak-rostii without a doubt)

-ros: -less (eg shuubi-ros)

Varaeii: instead of (maaji varaeii kaymis vanakh - who'll you tell instead of your mother)

_ jaa'ay: in place of (laptop jaa'ay an be tablet - I'll get a tablet in place of a laptop)

_ traevith: except (baa'ik traevith yi mangakh - whatever you ask for except a bike)

Bagaer: Loanword used for all preceding meanings except jaa'ay

This is what the dictionary says but I've heard rostii used for "instead" (maaji rostii kaymis vanakh) and "except" (baa'ik rostii yi mangakh), varaeii used for "without" (shak varaeii) and "except" (baa'aik varaeii yi mangakh)

Are these words more flexible in Kashmiri than English or is the heard usage wrong?

I watched this video about why little children like peek-a-boo so much and it mentioned that different cultures have different words for this phenomenon. It got me wondering how we have it in kashmiri? I remember "kana mana ... tu" but that's for the ear not peak-a-boo
