Alex Eala's post-match interview at Wimbledon's Centre Court after beating defending champion Iga Swiatek

Q: “How does it feel to be standing here after just defeating the defending champion on Centre court?”

Alex: “I don’t know how to describe it. I’m in the 2nd week of a slam. It’s amazing for me. Iga is a phenomenal player and a really nice person. I’m really grateful to be able to share Centre court with her at Wimbledon. I’m really emotional. Maybe for someone like Iga who’s won so many slams or someone like Serena or Venus, this achievement may seem small.. but for someone who grew up in the Philippines…”

*Alex begins to cry*

“I went to train with my brother and grandfather every day after school with my ruffled socks and shoes and my chubby cheeks. To her, this is everything.”

Vice Ganda and Vic Sotto movie set to be announced this Sunday

Parang wala yata sa briefing yung isa sa mga guest performers for the event at inunahan ang ABS at iba pang kasama sa production ang official announcement, which is likely going to be an MMFF entry. Should be interesting kung anong magiging approach nila dito, kung slapstick comedy like the pre-pandemic days or mas in line with their recent post-pandemic MMFF movies (The Kingdom, ATBI, Call Me Mother).

#29 seed Alex Eala's 2026 Wimbledon projected draw

Starting off Wimbledon this year against world #76 Renata Zarazúa in R1 and if she advances... absolute cinema either way. Eastbourne 2025 final rematch vs. a currently out-of-form Joint or THE Serena Williams in R2. Then, possible R3 matchup vs. defending Wimbledon champ Iga Swiatek.

Just hoping this is her deepest run sa isang GS so far given her grass form and sana lang her left shoulder is recovered na by then. She's only been past R1 once.

Is this the best Philippine sports journalism can offer?

Does anyone really care about the purse money Alex Eala gets every tournament she competes in? Mas naiintindihan ko pa kung pag-uusapan ang ranking points because that's more indicative of where she's at; but for some local news agencies to use her earnings as the headline feels like it's undermining her as an athlete tapos hindi lahat ng yun, mapupunta sa kanya because of taxes and operating expenses such as hotel accommodations, flights, and coaching fees.

For someone who claims to have followed Alex since her ITF days "before it was cool", Niel Masoy of The Manila Times sure loves to use her prize money as a headline for a good portion of his articles about her. Perhaps, some in-depth analysis would be better like say, bakit mas bagay yung playstyle niya sa grass compared to clay? Or how her taped left shoulder could potentially affect her best chance so far to make a deep run sa isang GS?

Not to mention, they've done this before nung nanalo sina Hidilyn at Caloy ng gold para sa atin nung Olympics. Do better, Philippine sports media. If you need to have a dedicated beat reporter about our athletes, have someone with knowledge about their sport, follow their journeys as much as possible and make the technical jargons easier for the common Filipino to understand.

Source

From playing Center Court in her Wimbledon main draw debut last year vs. then-defending Wimbledon champion Barbara Krejcikova to now, officially being the first Filipina to be seeded in a singles Grand Slam tournament. Best of luck ahead of next week, Alex, and keep flying the flag high!

Former AWVT libero Sarah Hugo on Matec Villanueva

Since graduating na siya later this week, pinuksa na niya si Matec as both communications director and someone na malaki ang involvement sa volleyball program. May insight din from her perspective na mas inuuna ng UAO yung interes ng university over the student-athletes.

Baldwin and Quimpo resign from Ateneo

What's the next step? This is no longer just sports kasi there's so much more that needs to be explaining from the admin not just regarding the deaths of Bobet and Divine, but as well them protecting sexual harassers if everything Mrs. Efi Baldwin said is proven to be true.

Kailangang managot din ang Ateneo admin in all of this.

AWVT player and Divine Adili's friend Dona de Leon shares a conversation with late friend about the training program under coach Tab Baldwin

Coach Tab Baldwin’s silence was requested by Ateneo

Fr. Bobby Yap has a lot of explaining to do. Bakit may internal gag order kina Tab, Epok, the rest of the team's officials and players?

Matec Villanueva, lakas mong magsalita sa Facebook in recent months regarding the women's volleyball team since malaki ang involvement mo with the team and going as far as alienating the non-Atenean fans supporting the team. You're not even doing your main job right as communications director! Hindi ko nga alam why you're still around when you've missed the mark in almost every negative issue involving the university the past few years.

Rudy Ang... I heard some things about you na you and Matec love to power trip and look down on your own student body. Feels like you and the other two are among the forefront of operating the institution as if nasa corporate world ka pa din.

As an alumni, nakakadismaya ang Ateneo admin. Hindi nakaka-Atenista sa totoo lang.
