Future treatment/therapy for vision and the cost
I’m in my 40s and have been out of work for a few years due to an eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), which is a progressive condition that can eventually cause severe vision loss.
There is currently a Phase 3 clinical trial in the US for a potential treatment. If it gets regulatory approval, hopefully it can become available in Singapore in the next few years. But one of my biggest concerns is the cost. I understand the treatment might cost up to US$1 million per therapy.
I only have a five-figure amount in my MediSave, so obviously that is nowhere near enough.
Does anyone know if there are any government agencies, schemes, charities or other forms of assistance in Singapore that could help with the cost of something like this?
There is also another therapy currently in Phase 1/2 trials in the US which could restore vision, but that will probably take even longer before it becomes available.
