AITA for this?

22F here. my partner and I have been dating since 2023. while not everything has been smooth sailing, just want your opinion for finance wise.

he earns $5-6k a month. he's a degree holder. he has a decent job and earns more than me.

i earn 3-4k a month. im a diploma holder, don't want degree because it's financially expensive and i know I'll not be able to handle the pressure so for me dip is enough. I have a small home based biz.

everytime we go out, half the time or more I end up paying for us. i also paid for half his semester in university and for fuel, for everything (he has a car)

the only time he pays is when i start to get annoyed that he hasn't been paying for anything. sometimes when I do, he says he's saving for our future (has stocks or something, I'm not clear)

so I told him off and said I didn't want to pay for stuff anymore and we should just do Dutch or pay our own things only when we go out.

he got angry and said he's been considerate about how he's spending for us so we can have a good house or whatever next time and that I'm ungrateful and since I'm the one who's running biz my income is subject to a lot more growth so I should be the one taking the financial burden when we go out now and we can work together on it in the future after we settle BTO housing or whatever....

Lol pls give me your opinions.

Edit: yeah guys i get it i will start detaching to run away HAHAHAHAHA 💀

Soup Refills: Will you ever pay?

I saw online, 545 Whampoa Prawn Noodles charging $1 for soup refills. Will you pay for soup refills or go elsewhere altogether to eat?

For those who have tried 545 Whampoa Prawn Noodles, is it worth the top up? I read reviews saying their soup is diluted. Those who ordered dry version were given a smaller bowl of soup and is the same price of $1.

Check out this review of 545 Whampoa Prawn Noodles on Google Maps https://goo.gl/maps/yQ2GSvYERZQCAk8S8

If even Meta employees are getting laid off… are any jobs actually “stable” anymore?

Just read the news about Meta cutting 8,000 jobs.

Honestly it kind of messed with my brain a bit because growing up, companies like Meta/Google were seen as the “made it already” type of jobs. High pay, prestige, smart people, stable future, amazing office, all that.

But now even people in tech, engineering, product teams, AI teams etc are getting cut.

And what scares me more is some of these employees were there for YEARS. Some even upskilled themselves in AI… only to get replaced during the AI restructuring itself.

Makes me wonder what “job security” even means anymore

Feels like nowadays:

  • Companies want loyalty but can cut people overnight
  • Everyone is constantly upskilling out of fear
  • Even high performers don’t feel safe anymore
  • Fresh grads can’t get jobs
  • Mid-career workers are panicking
  • AI is moving faster than people can adapt

Not trying to doompost but genuinely curious:
Do we still believe in staying loyal to one company long-term? Or is the mindset now just “earn as much as possible before your turn comes”?

Would really like to hear thoughts especially from people in tech/corporate right now.

tooth + gum ache

for context I have had my braces on for 1yr and 10months, specifically from July 2024 to may 2026. Before braces my orthodontist had put in those blue spaces for the molar band to fit in. I also didnt remove any of my tooth since the main issue I wanted to fix was overcrowding back then. I have been wearing my retainers consistently ever since I got them (since last sat 16may) my toothache only started after I wore my retainers. during the week of waiting for my retainers, I had no problem with chewing and experienced zero discomfort. however ever since I started wearing my retainers, whenever I chew both my upper second last toothaches and feels sore. then pain doesn’t stop till 30mins later. when I touch my gums above those two teeth, there’s discomfort as well. those were the two teeth where the molar bands were placed as well. right now, my left cheek feels sore too (idk if I’m overthinking)
anyone with similar experience?

also, I’m not really satisfied with my results mainly because I had overcrowding and didn’t remove any teeth, so now I have flared teeth on both my upper and lower teeth

Why is it that the people who should be getting therapy don’t, but it’s the people around them who go for therapy?

Is singapore as a society lacking adequate awareness and education about therapy? Why do the people who need therapy not believe in therapy? Are there misconceptions about therapy, hence people are not going for it?

It’s a pressure cooker society and many of us didn’t grow up in a healthy environment. So why do people remain unaware and continue carrying trauma instead of getting help?

Possible to have a say in investment property which I paid partially for but not in my name in my will?

My husband and I each own one property for own-stay (50/50), investment (80/20) - me 80%.

All deposits, mortgage, fees are all paid with the above percentage. Coincidentally, both properties are bought at the same price.

Saw the recent news about guy losing his 99-1 property despite paying more and got me thinking. If I pass on, will I still be entitled to the own-stay 50-50? And if I were to do up a will now, would I be able to have a say in that property?

I’m married with one kid if context matters. Also looking for advice on how couples with 2 properties deal with such matters.

Edit: I meant, to will the share away or to have a percentage of the proceeds once sold as it’s always in the plan to have it sold.

Edit2: Seems like I’ll not be able to get any share from the own-stay property. Is the only way to pay for ABSD and have my name in both so that I won’t lose the share?

Not comfortable with leaving assets to husband as we are both in early 30s. Would preferably want to leave to kids/siblings and husband likely may remarry too.

Singaporeans, what are your everyday habits that you lowkey think everyone should be doing?

Okay so I've been doing a few things lately and I'm curious if anyone else is on the same wavelength.

I've started sanitising my devices after using them outside, bringing my own water bottle everywhere, using my own container for takeaway food, and carrying a paper bag when I go shopping.

Honestly it started feeling weird but now it's second nature and I can't imagine going back.

Are any of you doing the same? Or do you have other habits you've quietly picked up that you think more Singaporeans should adopt?

Drop them below, genuinely curious what the rest of you are doing.

What's the hype with cars and condos in tough times?

I see people with average dual-income usually in dilemma about getting cars or condos while they already fear career instability, unforgiving job market and uncertain economy. Isn't that a no-brainier to pass on these big risk? I don't get why people will seek more debt and a high chance of bankruptcy during difficult times.

How is SG geospatial industry today?

For context, I am considering joining this industry through the new Geospatial Intelligence course at NUS. Additionally, with the recent space summit and the set up of Singapore’s own space agency, this field seemed to receive more attention. The NUS professors have mentioned that the government needs a pool of local talent to help further this sector.

Do you think it's a good move, and is the future as bright as they say in terms of job prospects, stability, pay, and growth?

I would really appreciate any input, as I am having trouble making up my mind and the deadline is approaching.

Thank you 🙏

Controversial: Does going to NUS/NTU/SMU actually get you paid more in 2026

Be honest would you judge someone's resume differently if they went to SIM vs NUS?

Just curious how people actually feel about this in today's context. Does the SG Big 3 (NUS, NTU, SMU) or even the local 6 still carry that prestige when it comes to hiring and pay?

Do grads from local unis genuinely come out earning more? Or is that gap closing?

And what about private uni students some of them really fight hard to get in and graduate.Does that effort get recognised by employers, or does the stigma still exist?

Would love to hear from both sides, employers, fresh grads, and even those who've been in the workforce for a while.

Why are there so many contract jobs instead of perm jobs?

Recently I was looking at job listing websites and noticed that there were a lot of contract jobs (anywhere from 2 months to 2 year contract). Either from agency or from the actual companies themselves.

The job always states, opportunity to convert to perm. But like why not just hire perm staff?

If the company is worried about the staff's competence and performance, that's what the probation period is for, isn't it?

Ladies, where are you shopping for statement clothing?

Imma be real, all the brands I see online or get marketing for have the same boring OL looks or boring af borderline churchy looks, OR is really very teenager style (I’m 28). It’s the same 5 recycled looks that are rebranded across the different brands too, with varying levels of beige, white, black and pastels, or it’s too aunty with extremely bright colours. Don’t even get me started on how a lot of the choices here are exclusive to a very specific demographic skinny Chinese girls who weigh less than 50kgs…

The only styles and designs I seem to like are either not affordable for me (Desigual, Zimmerman etc) or is extremely cheap plastic fast fashion from online retailers like SHEIN (and this is a hit or miss because cannot try fit beforehand). Uniqlo is ok ig for basics but I’m trying to build statement pieces. Sometimes I get lucky with Love Bonito, Zara, Pull&Bear etc but honestly… it’s tough.

Im a bit crafty so I recently even got a sewing machine cuz I’m so sick of the choices and am planning to just try to make my own clothing based off designs I see online 🥲 but I still thought I would try to ask around to see if ANYONE know any brands in the $30-40 range?

Anyone else stopped liking Instagram post too?

Feel like social media has quietly changed. I don’t like posts anymore not influencers, not even friends and family. It’s always the same travel pics or another soulless sponsored drop.

And half the engagement is probably bought anyway. We’re all just scrolling past at this point.
Anyone else the same

Is my phone being hacked?

This was what I get when I try to open Singapore Pools on app….

**EDIT: for context, last month I clicked on a Google Teams meet link for interview, but the job turned out to be scam coz they ask me to download Liquid Pay app on App Store and then log into SingPass but I stopped when I hear the need for SingPass, so I don’t think the “scammers” got access to my phone right?
