Smol Vent post

Trans-fem, Dysphoria hitting super hard today.

I'm nearly 30, fat and balding, and I just want to feel cute and pretty so so so so badly.

I (hopefully) have an endo apt. In 2 months to discuss HRT, and that feels so so far away 😭 idk how I'm gonna last 2 months.

Just wanted to say it out loud, I guess.

Lose Weight before HRT?

I have a dr appointment to discuss a referral for HRT tomorrow.

I also want to lose weight. I'm 6ft, 240 lbs. I'd be OK as a chubby girl, but I HATE being a shlubby guy.

I know fat doesn't literally move from HRT. Would it be worth delaying HRT until I've lost the weight?

Learning to love my face?

I'm 28, and I finally admitted to myself a few days ago that I'm trans.

I shaved off the dysphoria beard, I got my ears pierced and I'm trying a new name, and I feel so warm and happy and fuzzy :3

I'm trying to learn to love my face. In the right light I can see my mother's features underneath the layers of shlubby guy.

How can I best bring those features out? Has anyone successfully de-shlubified themselves?

Why I'm Uninstalling Rogue Core

Appologies if this seems overly negative. I'm not trying to attack anybody. I just wanted to share my own experience with the game.

I love both DRG and Rogue-likes, so I thought this game would be perfect for me. But after about 20 hours, I don't feel like playing Rogue Core anymore. In short: I just don't find the game interesting enough to justify 40+ minute runs. Maybe the game just isn't for me. But GhostShip Games has asked for feedback, so I've tried to be specific about what I find disinteresting.

1) The Shared Exponite Upgrades

The Exponite Upgrades are designed to be generic, because everyone picks from the same pool. Unfortunately, generic upgrades are kinda boring. No class-specific upgrades. No Weapon-specific upgrades. And no upgrades that would be too powerful or too weak on one class. They are technically well-balanced, but I find them very very bland.

2) Lack of Class Identity

In most rogue-likes, different characters/classes add variety to runs. But in RC, barely anything is affected by class. Your kit is completely interchangeable, aside from one or two abilities. You have the same pool of weapons, the same tools, the same stats, the same perks, and even the same bio-decks. There's very little variety between runs. And if you join late, you get handed a random weapon with no choice. If I'm going to invest 30-40 minutes in a run, I'd like to at least pick if I start with a shotgun or a rifle

3) Missing Overclocks

With the Exponite Upgrades being intentionally generic, The workbench feels like the perfect place to incoperate big impactful upgrades. It could offer overhauls to the class abilities, or interesting overclocks. But instead its often a choice between 40% more magazine or a better zipline. I can't tell if this is an intentional design choice, or a part of early access. It doesn't help that the workbench also has to include class-upgrades, traversal tools, and likely grenades and equipment in the future. It's a lot of options all competing with eachother.

4) Focus on Combat

DRG has very simple combat. Most of the mechanical depth comes from weapon builds and overclocks. You position wisely, you shoot the bugs. They die. But thats OK because DRG is about both mining AND combat. Having a swarm pop up at an inconvient time is a huge part of the fun, and makes the simple combat feel exciting and fresh.

RC removes a lot of the mining/exploration to focus on the combat, but it hasn't done much to make it interesting on it's own. It doesn't need to be DOOM Eternal or Ultrakill, but it needs a bit more depth to keep it interesting (at least in my opinon).

5) Solutions / Suggestions

My number one suggestion is: "Remove the shared-upgrade system so there can be more depth and variety". But I recognize thats a foundational part of the design, and unlikely to change. So here are some other suggestions:

  • Allow players to pick a starting weapon as part of the loadout
  • Give overclocks as rewards for some bonus events instead of exponite
  • Give each class a different weapon pool, and balance around that
  • More Mobility options (ideally class-specific)
  • More Meta Progression tied to caves/events

6) Palette Cleanser (What I really Really Like)

I would like to end on a positive note, so here's some things I really like

  • Healing provided as Red-Sugar, so healing upgrades help the whole team
  • Upgrades that trigger when near another player, encourages grouping up
  • The new weapon designs are each unique and very fun to use!
  • Rescuing fallen dwarves from the Reaper Worm nests is a great solution to players dying between layers
  • Lady Dwarves! Finally!

Thanks for reading!
