If you're sitting at an RP hub waiting for a walk-up to happen without any luck, reconsider the "Currently" and "At First Glance" sections of your TRP
I guess this is like half advice and half venting.
I know there are tons of us that are shy and kind of wallflowers. Honestly, that's okay. I used to be that way. I know how it is, I know you want RP but it can be kind of scary or anxiety-inducing to impose yourself on someone else, or you don't know how to approach. I get it. Over time I've become more and more prone to initiating walk-ups with such people if their TRPs seem like ones I would enjoy interacting with. I have next to no trouble doing this anymore. I'm happy to approach such people and I do it often.
Though, a lot of you guys are shooting yourselves in the foot when it comes to how your TRPs are constructed. A lot of you accidentally make yourselves much harder to walk up to than you need to be. There have been so many profiles of characters that look like they'd be fun for my own character to walk up to. My first step in walking up is checking their "Currently" and "At First Glance" to see if there's anything they're doing that I can work with on my approach, and the amount of times there's just nothing there for me to actually work with (leading me to change my mind and find someone else) is just tragic.
If you want more walk-ups, please try and consider your "Currently" and "At First Glance" sections as opportunities for hooks. They can be small or relatively mundane, it can be extravagant but it doesn't have to be. Maybe they're currently jotting some notes down and my character can try to take a curious peek, or they're enjoying a snack and my character can try to solicit a bite in a manner that's way less subtle than she thinks it is. Maybe one of your glances is a possession that's not super common to see and my character can be curious about it. You're totally wasting the walk-up potential these sections can have when you have two glances, one of them being "His facial hair is black," and your "Currently" is something sassy like "Being a badass" instead of actually describing a thing they're doing.
Obviously everyone is welcome to structure their TRPs however they want, everything here is just my own perspective, but if you're a shy wallflower parked alone and genuinely hoping for more random walk-ups, please consider what I wrote lol, as a walk-upper it is infinitely easier for me to do that with profiles that consider the above.
