Next step up from Bolton

I have been skiing Bolton Valley with my kids for the past few seasons. It's where we learned. We have had season passes and will again this year. I stick to mostly blues and greens. I am not very good on glades and moguls. For me, Fanny Hill is my sweet spot and I like trying to make carving turns down Beech Seal (though it is short). I have not skied Cobrass because it is usually icy or thin cover but would like to this year. My daughter (14) mostly sticks with me but likes to try some of the glades and woods. My son (11) skis the entire mountain, although I'm not entirely sure of how well but he is always at the checkpoints we establish when we split up.

I'd like to take my kids to a different mountain this winter so they can experience something else. We like Bolton because it is not huge and resorty. I'm wondering what the next step up is from Bolton. For example, Smuggs looks nice but it is pretty divided. Morse looks like it is all green which might be boring for my son while Madonna and Sterling look like it might be too challenging for me and the blacks too much for my son. I don't care if we split up for different runs but I don't want to be on two entirely different mountains. Anyway, my question is, what in Vermont is a reasonable next step up given what I explained from Bolton Valley?

First and Third Strategy for 12U

With runners on first and third and under 2 outs what is your defensive strategy for the runner stealing second?

I hate giving up the free base and I am usually willing to trade the out for the run. I know some like to run plays with the short stop cutting off the throw but I find the percentages are higher with just getting the out at second. At very least, it makes the other team aware that second isn't just a free base in that situation and they have to decide what to do.

Sometimes I'll have the catcher pump fake and throw to third to mix it up. Depending on the score and situation I will have the catcher hold the ball and focus on getting the batter out. I find myself, though, taking the out at second more often than not.

Edit: I am talking little league. No leads. Sixty foot bases. With leads the odds change drastically and the focus will shift. I only have take the out when I am reasonably sure my catcher will make the play.

Repair versus Replace

I have an old Nokona WB-1200 (pictured) and I love it. It is mostly used for an adult league and coaching my son at this point. It is starting to wear beyond me just conditioning it, which I do regularly with Nokona conditioner. I reached out to Nokona and was given an estimate of $270 + return shipping for a Reline, Repad, Relace.

They don't make this model anymore so I'd have to replace it with an Edge model which is about $400. I don't like the look of the Edge in terms of the style (the pinky is strange and I would miss the old thumb logo) but whatever. I'm also not sold on the Edge model, though I am intrigued.

So now my question is this. Is it better to reline, repad, and relace the old one or for a little more buy a new one and go through the break in process when I'm not really playing super competitive ball at this point?

Scrapper Backbone

I recently bought a Scrapper Backbone (pictured). It’s a nice idea and I liked it very much. When I first held it the backbone felt like a cheaply 3D printed item but it did its job so I used it. After a few days it fell a short distance (3 feet to the dugout floor) and broke in 3 pieces. I paid something like $40 for the thing. The owner blocked my emails and attempts to rectify the situation.

I’m posting this as a PSA. Don’t waste your money.
