Buyer beware-Auto leases are highway robbery
I went in to buy a new Acura and told the salesman to please give me the best deal and it could be cash, financed or leased but I just asked for the best possible final cost. He proceeded to talk me into a 3 year lease. When I finally made it home and calculated my cash payment on a $44,000 car I Will end up paying $50,000 if I keep the car at lease end. If I don't keep the car, the dealer gets a fairly new car back plus $25,000 in lease & upfront payments.
Clearly not the best deal. What is worse there is no cool off period on a lease agreement. Once you sign, you are on the hook. Just saying make all your calculations before you sign and before you commit.
It is fairly simple: just add any upfront money they request to the total sum of your lease payments plus the residual (buyout) value of your car at lease end. Be prepared to be shocked and walk away.
