Hi everyone I’m desperate and just need some help for my very lovely sweet rescue….

About 5 months ago my boyfriend and I adopted a dog from a rescue & they informed us he has separation anxiety (not a big deal my boyfriend has a remote job) he was on trazodone & gabapentin in the shelter so we got all of his meds from there & kept up with trazodone - the gabapentin we didn’t because our vet that we took him to didn’t think he would need it

We took him to the vet as mentioned above and didn’t think he needed gabapentin because we decided to put him on 40mg of Prozac he is a large mixed breed dog we believe a lab, German shepherd, and bloodhound mix.

We decided to put him on Prozac because he ultimately was just too anxious about anyone going near any doors he did not like it & hated being in his crate so much so that he would tear any and everything up in it, break the crate, and he injured his nose by trying to escape from the metal bars.

Fast forward 3 months into the Prozac we had been experiencing very positive results! We were able to get him more comfortable being left home alone, he wasn’t whining or pacing anymore, able to settle, and was doing amazing.

Then, my boyfriend and I had a week long vacation planned & we obviously got a dog sitter (someone who he knew and has been around countless times and has been left alone with often too) coming back we have had a complete regression of his anxiety. During the day he’s fine, night time he turns into the most anxious mess known to man kind. Mind you we take him on 10miles in walks a day. He always get a long night time walk & is able to sniff on it too. I give him lick treats but he’s too anxious to pay those any attention.

At night time I give him his trazodone dose along with melatonin and still nothing works. I recently got him a thundershirt as well in hopes that it would help tonight is night 2 with it & still no improvement.

I need some recommendations. He doesn’t let us sleep at night because he whines the whole night & jumps on and off the bed, pants constantly, and paces. We have a vet appointment but I just need some tips to get us through until we take him in. Thanks.
