Second attempt. What do you guys think I should do?
Alright gents I need some input. For some context, I bough this Bolt back in March of 24, and I’ve grown a bit attached . It’s the first bike that I’ve really ridden consistently. I spent that whole summer riding daily and loving every second of it. The Bolt may not be the best at what it does, but it was MY bike and I loved it.
That being said, I got a bit over confident and high sided into a ditch. Luckily I walked away mostly unscathed, the bike not so much. Here’s my predicament. I’m without a bike at the moment and losing my mind because of it. I need something for the summer/fall, so here’s my question; should I try to fix it up, or buy a new bike?
I’ve thought about trying to do a bobber build that’s (relatively) cheap. Almost everything that’s damaged on the bike can be directly replaced. As far as I can tell the frame is straight, the motor is still fine, and it would probably ride just fine with a bit of work. I just started a new job that pays significantly less than what I was doing before, so I’m on a fairly tight budget, but the peace of mind is more than worth it. I have a lot more time to bring my attention towards projects like this. I’ve (roughly) estimated the cost to get it riding to be about $1500-$2000. I just want to know what you all think is the best way to go.
I didn’t claim insurance since I figured it would be more trouble than it’s worth and I only have liability. I got cocky and wrecked completely of my own doing, and I think I’ve learned my lesson. (Feel free to roast me, I’m a fairly new rider and I guess I had to learn the hard way.) No one else was involved, no property damages or anything like that.
So I guess, tldr, should I fix it up and have a custom bobber build? Or just try to sell it for what little it’s worth as is and buy a new bike?
