I am done buying Interplay games

These price hikes on games that were released decades ago are not based in reality. If Interplay somehow thinks they can price things like Activision, they are delusional as Activision actually releases popular games. The only thing these price hikes will achieve are losing the few loyal customers they already have by pissing them off, and from what I can tell they are doing a great job at that.

If anyone who matters reads this, I sincerely hope you enjoy the sales dip because I can guarantee you based on these prices they will keep coming. Don't believe me? Take a look at GOG's best selling games and see if you can find any of even Interplay's very best, top sellers anywhere on that list. I only looked through the top 1000 and couldn't find any Interplay games anywhere.

Anyone else feel like Mission Impossible peaked with the first movie?

Don't get me wrong, the new movies are fun and I thoroughly enjoyed all of them (...except MI2...we don't talk about MI2). But after a recent rewatch of that first Brian De Palma Mission Impossible movie, it made me remember just how much better and more engrossing it really was. The fast cuts, the brilliant camerawork, the grittiness and realism that all the sequels lacked. The devices and even the masks they used felt and looked so much more realistic somehow (like you could tell it was Tom Cruise underneath, but he also looked like a different person). The plot and all its twists all completely threw you in the moment, and it holds up just so, so well despite its age.

For me to watch a film 10-15 times and still have the same reaction I did when I first saw it is incredible, and despite the fact that I know exactly what's going to happen, I'm still completely mesmerized by it 30 years later.

Edit: Given how controversial this post is (literally 50% upvoted 50% downvoted) I see a lot of different answers about what people's favorite films are in the series (which would make sense for a series that has 8 different movies that are almost entirely good movies).

For those of you that actually genuinely dislike the first movie, I have a question if anyone wants to answer: Did you start the series by watching the first one, or did you come back to it after watching the sequels?

Were we watching the same documentary?

After watching The Vow again I was curious to see people's reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB, and explore some of the top posts on this sub. And stuff kept coming up everywhere saying things like "I'm not victim blaming but everyone involved with NXIVM should rot in hell" "God those main characters were insufferable twats" or "This documentary doesn't place any of the blame on the people who were in it!" or "These people have no shame for what they've done".

And I have to say it is baffling to me. Were we in fact watching the same documentary? The documentary where people are ruminating, miserable, and even sobbing because they now realize what they've done to people? Did people forget that these people were in a cult?

I keep seeing people saying that these people chose to do these things, ignoring research upon research upon research from experts stating that people in cults do not in fact actively choose to do these things of their own free will. I've seen people say "Idgaf about brainwashing, they should know better". They didn't know better at the time, and if you had been brainwashed over a period of years you wouldn't know better either.

Most of these people making these judgements make them from a position of comfort and distance, having never experienced anything like this situation before in their entire lifetimes. And I think ultimately it makes them feel better about themselves to look down on other people, and gives them an outlet for their frustrations.

Nobody should be excused for their actions that harm other people. But we have to remember that they are the ones that have to live with those consequences for the rest of their lives, and no amount of anger or hate or self righteousness towards them is going to make them suffer more (and even if it did, why would you want them to). Many of them have already lost so much to this cult already, their money, their friends, their family, even their entire worldview and for some of them, their reason for living. That's something that most of us have the luxury of never having to experience.

At some point these people should be able to learn from their actions, change their ways, eventually forgive themselves, and move on. Instead, this stuff sometimes brings out the absolute worst in people and shows us how vindictive people can be, the types of people that only care about revenge instead of justice or reform.

Did they fuck up? Yeah, they did. Some of them fucked up big time. But they deserve to move on from their past, not be endlessly tormented for it regardless of their actions now. And we should be compassionate and understanding for those people that regret their actions, and are doing their best to change and even change things for other people for the better.

That's it. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Need structure and community

Hello all,

I am having a very difficult time figuring out a way to meditate as a habit but of course my biggest obstacle is my self. I have a tendency to forget things, and have a difficult time with any sort of habit or structured routine in general. I often have to figure out a way to "outsmart" my self to make anything stick, and the one habit I care most about sticking is meditation.

I live in the middle of nowhere (no sanghas near where I live), and so I am looking for something with affordable online classes or meetings if possible. I tried Tergar's Joy Of Living and while I really liked it, it seemed like live meetings were infrequent and classes seem mostly self administered, which I have a feeling will make me forget about them altogether.

At this moment, the state of consciousness is the most important thing, so I am looking on a class that truly focuses on meditation as a routine. Does anyone have any recommendations for online classes/communities that meet regularly? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Much thanks!

Games that feel like watching a good cartoon

I've been playing the Ace Attorney games and for me it scratches an itch that no other game has. And while I do love the detective and logic parts of it, that's not what keeps me coming back. What I love about those games is that it feels like a cartoon with lovable well written funny characters. Other than Ghost Trick, Thank Goodness You're Here, and maybe Day Of The Tentacle, are there any other games that scratch that same itch? Open to visual novels as well, just not really looking for rom-com games, mostly just looking for story centered stuff that's funny and relaxing.

Edit: Wow already overwhelmed by how many great suggestions are on here, thanks all for your input! I have a feeling this list will keep me busy for the foreseeable future!
