My gran’s plum cake recipe, still going strong

This is one of those recipes that’s been in the family for years. My gran used to make it whenever the plums were getting a bit too ripe, and now it’s become my job to keep it going.

Mine came out a little more browned on top than hers usually did, but the middle was soft and jammy so I’ll take it.

We always had it warm with custard. Anything else feels slightly wrong.

The laundromat put five separate $20 holds on my card

Went to a new laundromat because the machines at my apartment have been broken for weeks. The washers were only $3.75 each, but every time I tapped my card the laundromat placed a temporary $20 hold. I used three washers and two dryers, so my bank balance suddenly dropped by $100 even though the laundry itself cost less than $20.

I had money, but it was in a separate account and transferring it instantly would've cost another fee. I ended up leaving my grocery cart at Aldi because my card declined and I had no clue what happened until I checked the pending transactions.

The laundromat says the holds can take up to 7 days to disappear. I know the money technically isnt gone, but when your account is already low, temporarily losing $100 might as well be the same thing. Why does being broke require having extra money available just to prove you can afford something?

is there a polite way to tell your friend his apartment smells without ruining everything?

my buddy has had this apartment for like 2 years and every time i go over there its the same thing. not like dirty or gross just this specific smell. kind of like old carpet mixed with something else i cant even describe.

he clearly cant notice it himself because he never brings it up and the place looks fine

the thing is he keeps asking why i always wanna hang at mine or just go out and im running out of excuses. i got some extra cash and im thinking of just gifting him an air purifier and playing it off as a random gift just to avoid the whole conversation

has anyone actually told a friend something like this without it becoming a whole thing or do i just never go to his place again
