AITA for refusing to lend money to a relative who already owes several people?
A relative asked to borrow money again. This person already owes money to at least three other family members and has a history of not paying people back on time (or at all).
When the request came, it was turned down. The response was that it didn’t feel right to add to an already long list of unpaid debts. There was immediate pushback from some family members saying it was cold and that “family helps family.”
The pattern has been the same for years — borrow, promise to repay, then disappear until the next request. Saying yes would just continue that cycle. Saying no created tension.
So… AITA for refusing?
