Me (22M) and my girlfriend (23F) were talking about potentially breaking things off. I was just about to finish my last semester of school, and she was feeling a bit neglected (my last semester was a practicum, and it was very stressful and demanded all of my attention). On top of that I was planning to move back to my hometown which is way out in the country, and she had grown up living in urban spaces. Just two people leading their own lives planning to go their own separate ways. We had discussed this much before her dad's birthday. During the birthday dinner, I felt it was the right time to let everyone know our plans since they were all gathered in the same place. Her mom told me to leave the house and that I had ruined the birthday party. My ex-gf and I argued that this was a fair approach to telling everyone, and that I should be able to stay and at least give her dad my gift (hand-carved cutlery). I watched as he opened it with a grim smile and he didn't thank me for the thought. My ex is REALLY upset at her family, but I can also see why taking the moment of a birthday celebration away from her dad may have been a bad call. Just didn't want it to be weird when a few days later (after showing up for the birthday and acting all cute and cuddly with her) I just randomly seemed to go away :( AITAH?

TL;DR: Broke up with gf during her dad's birthday party before giving him a gift and now her whole family hates me.
