French is a gendered language. Almost everything has a masculine and a feminine form.
The masculine form of pioneer is "Pionnier"
The feminine form of pioneer is "Pionnière"
The neutral form of pioneer is it's masculine form "Pionnier"

Inclusive french language tries to mix both and separate the the differences with a "." which gives this incomprehensible gibberish "Pionni.er.ère"
It should be noted that inclusive language has been rejected by the French Academy, which has even warned against its use. It describes inclusive writing as a "mortal peril" for the French language.

I can (reluctantly) accept that in English the pronoun "they" is used for a person whose sex is unknown.

However, in French there is no neutral pronoun. "iel" doesn't exist.
