Confusing guidance on color palette
Im attending a wedding in Texas in September and have been getting some conflicting guidance on what colors are acceptable. I am a regular guest, not part of the wedding party. Here is the guidance taken directly from the website:
Semi- formal cocktail.Think night time garden party.
Please feel free to play with patterns and textures within the color palette provided, we want fun and colorful pictures with all of our favorite people. Statement accessories are also encouraged.
Have fun with your outfits and get ready to smile for the camera!
***We kindly ask no white, ivory, or perceived white ( like very pale pinks, yellows, etc) as white is for the bride.*🩷
Followed by this, there is an inspo board (first picture) and then a list of colors (second picture). Neither is identified as the color palette specifically. There is a range of colors on the inspo board, and the color list seems more limiting since really only 3 of the colors are safe to wear (burgundy, olive, dusty rose) according to the guidance above to avoid paler colors like pale pink and ivory. Additionally, the guidance that they want fun and color pictures makes it seem like they’d be open to more than just the three acceptable colors on the color list because they want colorful photos. So I guess my first question is— do they really want guests to just be wearing 3 colors only from the color list, or does it seem they are open to more colors like on the inspo board as long as they aren’t perceived white?
I have two other weddings coming up this year but this one is by far the most restrictive and confusing. Im trying to find a dress that would work for all. Im including the two dresses I was considering. One is orange, which is on the inspo board but not on the color list. The other is butter yellow, which is also on the inspo board but not on the color list. If it helps, im also very pale so the yellow will look even yellower on me as opposed to lighter on the tanned model. Two more questions: 1) do these seem like appropriate options given the inspo board above? 2) is the butter yellow too close to “perceived white” or ivory?
Thank you!!!
UPDATE: Thank you everyone for your insight!!! Hilarious to see how everyone is interpreting this differently. Honestly it was so validating, and makes me realize guests will be equally confused and probably all interpret it differently. Which makes me feel better and less stressed about following these cryptic rules perfectly. There does seem to be some consensus that the yellow dress is a no go, so im eliminating that one. I went ahead and ordered the orange dress. The first wedding im going to and will need the dress for is in 3 weeks, plus im moving in that time so I just needed it to be over with. I will casually keep looking though, so if I find something that I both like and is even better suited for the inspo board then I’ll go with that, but overall your comments have helped me realize that as long as I look good and fun and colorful and dont wear pale colors, my intentions will seem good. Thank you everyone :)!!!!
