[Meta] Wikimedia Foundation Community Wishlist Team disbanded, engineers laid off

You may be interested to know that yesterday Deputy Chief Product & Technology Officer at the Wikimedia Foundation laid off six Wikimedia Foundation employees who were responsible for the Community Wishlist - a way for volunteer editors to work with the WMF to implement suggestions and features important to the community.

Interestingly, one of the engineers impacted by the layoffs started the Wiki Workers United unionisation effort earlier this month. Make of that what you will.

We've organised a couple of meetups via Reddit and the /r/york Discord over the last few months.

We're planning to meet up again at City Screen Picturehouse Café Friday, 22 May 2026. If anyone would like to come along and chill with some queer nerds, you're more than welcome!

A bit about me: I’m a guy in my mid-30s, into Star Trek, grand strategy gaming, and Wikipedia editing.

  • Where: Cityscreen Café, either on the sofas or at one of the tables at the back!
  • When: 18:30, Friday 22 May 2026 (this Friday!)

Updated 5.0.0 LibreLinkUp app no longer sending alarm notifications?

Device: Google Pixel 8a

OS: Android 16

App version: 5.0.0.1077

The LibreLinkUp app recently updated to version 5.0.0 with a "fresh" look with new UI.

Since then I have not received any alarm notifications from the app, despite them working perfectly on previous versions. I've re-installed the app, cleared the data and cache, reset notification settings, made sure all the notifications were set on. Nothing.

There are a flurry of 1* reviews on the Play Store of other users encountering issues.

Has anyone also experienced this and found a fix? Without alarm notifications the app is basically useless.

Enterprise software, incredibly simple.
