Anyone here using collapsible cores regularly?

I’m curious how other people here feel about collapsible cores in injection molds.

We usually see them used for parts with internal undercuts where a normal core can’t release the part cleanly. In some cases they save space and avoid more complex side actions, but they also seem to bring more concerns about wear, maintenance, and long-term stability.

For people who use collapsible cores often:

  • What kind of parts are you mainly using them for?
  • Do you think they are worth it compared with sliders or other solutions?
  • What problems show up most in production: wear, sticking, flash, cleaning, or something else?
  • Any design tips that make them run more reliably?

Would be interested to hear real production experience, especially on cap molds, closures, or other high-volume tools.

What’s usually your biggest headache on multi-cavity packaging molds?

For those working with 16+ cavity packaging molds, what usually causes the most trouble for you?

For me it’s usually one of these:

•cavity-to-cavity filling variation

•venting consistency

•gate vestige control

•cooling balance over long production runs

Interested to hear what others run into most often.

We’re working on a PC shaft part and facing an issue with the gate vestige. The customer requires the gate protrusion to be below 0.02 mm, but we cannot change the hot runner gate diameter.

We’ve tried adjusting processing parameters, but it’s still difficult to meet this requirement consistently. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? Any suggestions on improving gate appearance without modifying the gate size?

I have a question about sink marks on this product. We’ve already tried adjusting the injection molding machine parameters, but the issue still isn’t resolved.

The customer cannot accept these sink marks. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this?
