Can it really be that I'm Wojak?

I saw the memes on YouTube long before I became a driver for Uber and I realise now they were parallels to real life. I decided to watch a few in the last couple of days and clearly it's a well trodden path. Multiple jobs, orders stolen, the 'gig economy'.

It's a very strange work environment. You've got to laugh, even Stalin liked a joke. He'd probably liquidate a town over a poor sat-nav position.

I turned up at KFC the other day and another driver had taken £60 worth of food. Does anyone try to find the culprit? It's like Blade Runner, Idiocracy, and Wojak blended into one.

Not A Work Diary by J.R. Hartley.

The last few days with Uber have been terrible. I can't even put the events in order other than the one I've just had.

KFC couldn't catch up with orders, had ran out of chicken. Burger king leaving out a burger and the customer calling me, I then take them back another burger and I think they gave me a negative on the satisfaction rate and a tip when I returned. Orders from Iceland when it's closed. ASDA has a door that they open to give you the orders through and they wouldn't answer the door so more cancelled orders. Spoilt middle-class people expecting me to climb flights of stairs to get to their flat and mostly no thanks.

I've just done a double pickup. The area the app took me was through was a pedestrian only walk through. I deliver to this woman in a flat that met me at the road, she was very humble and clearly didn't have a lot. When I passed her the order she remarked that the drink was wrong and sure enough it was the drink for the first drop-off. The previous drop-off was to 3 lads and the lad that walked over to me took the order out of the bag before I'd got out the van. He took the 2ltr Tango and not his 500ml Pepsi. I thought he'd robbed me basically and that poor woman not getting what she ordered sort of pushed me to A) Go to the shop to buy her another bottle and B) Go back to have a go at that lad.

They wouldn't answer the door as they were in the garden so I just walked into the garden and said "Where's the lad that ordered the food." and I chewed them out for a bit. Shook hands and left.

Of course you wouldn't do it. I didn't want to. I'm not sure this is for me, it's not like the really enjoyable first two weeks I had.

Uber Man.

New top score for me this evening.

Drive Time: 4h 4m.

Trips: 14.

Net Fare: £73.72

Promotions: £12.00

Tip: £15.67

Total Earnings £101.39

Ran quite smoothly from about 6-8pm than started slowing down. I had a large Pizza Hut order and when I got to the drop off an American was waiting for me and we had a brief chat, as I do if the customer is cool. One to watch I thought as they're known for the tips and that's where the £15.67 came from. Quids in. I had a KFC delivery for the hospital and when I arrived there were no instructions other than meet at door, so I waited, messaged the guy four times, rang twice. I even waited past the timer. I decided it was a piss take on the guy's part and sent a message telling him the order will be cancelled and gave the meal to a couple of coppers at A&E and cancelled it.

I didn't know what to do in all honesty with the cancelled order and wasn't sure if I was in trouble, not even the coppers wanted it. You can't just hand out KFCs to people, but they wanted it so bent the rules a bit.

Do I ask customer support for compensation for my time or what? Answers on a postcard.

Uber Claims I've Failed My Background Check!?

Just received this in an email:

We were unable to receive a clear background check We were unable to receive a clear background check You did not pass the background check We regret to inform you that we did not receive a clear background check in relation to your right to work in the UK. Based on the check result, you will no longer be able to go online.
Have questions? Please contact Sterling Talent Solutions or go to the Uber Help Center.

However I can currently go online and maybe past midnight the ride is over. I checked my Sterling account and it all cleared. All documents passed and I've been delivering since the 9th. Please just be a glitch but with my luck my account will close.

What are the chances that I'll have the account closed and be talking to a chat bot or customer services abroad... high I imagine.

Tango & Cash.

This evening's tally: 4hr 3m Drive Time, 11 trips, Net Fare £75.22, Promotions £7, Tip £5.97.

Total Earnings: £88.19.

I was out from 6pm to about 11:30pm and midway through that shift I exclaim "There's drinks in the bag!" I reach over and feel the side pocket and there's two cans and I haven't got a clue who they belong to. I've got a double order to pickup but I can't have someone think I've nicked them. KFC has Tango I'm thinking, so who did I give a KFC to? The bloke with the dangerous dog and I can't knock on the door as it sets the thing off. So I do the next deliveries and drive back to that older order to drop off the cans of Tango. I knock ever so gently but nobody answers, so I wave at the doorbell camera, I then press the doorbell and the Mastiff flies through the house barking. I put the cans on the step and leave.

That's my new record take beating Thursday's £86.41.

The Burger King.

Last night I delivered a takeaway. I picked up the the package from the restaurant and followed the Uber map to the drop off and was shocked to find that there was no house number attached to the order. I spent 15-20 minutes wandering about, spoke to several people etc used the in-app messaging function to no avail, tried to call the customer.

I'm relatively new to Uber having really only put in 14hrs drive time. I tried the chat bot which told me I was at the location, it told me to cancel order, it told me to place it somewhere safe and to take a photo.

What could I do? I settled for the photo as I felt I'd done more than enough and placed it where I imagined the order was placed. I left it on the steps of a pub.

I drove back towards Burger King as I wanted to eat as I hadn't eaten breakfast, lunch or dinner. As I pulled into the carpark the customer called. I'd guess an older woman, gentle, kind, from a wind swept croft in Scotland.

"WHERE'S MAH MEUL YAH BASTUT! YOU WERE SUPPOSTA DELIVER TA NUMBA TWELVE!"

Not a bit of it. Our Caledonian neighbour to the north spoke gently but did tell me I'd got the wrong address. I explained the situation and she wandered over to the pub steps to collect. Disaster averted.

I made £86.41 in 14 trips over 4h 50m drive time. Delays in food prep, the story above, and missing out on a quest I think cost me reaching the £100 mark but that was a record take for me last night. A good evening overall.

New to delivering Uber Eats.

Hello. As the title states I'm new to deliveries and I have some questions. I'm not using an ideal vehicle which is my work van, it can make parking difficult.

When I've accepted a job I literally follow the map on the phone until I arrive but a problem I'm having is that other jobs are popping up on the screen so I need to lean forward and press X repeatedly over the journey. Anyway to stop this happening?

Double pickups. Unfortunately these often involve locations in town that I can't park at. I know you can pass on double pickups but it seems to be the best way to boost your earnings. Is there a way to see which two restaurants the pickups are at without accepting the job first?

And finally the audio on the Uber App is resilient to my attempts to lower the volume, is that normal?

Any advice would be appreciated.
