Should I drop out of college?

Hi, I’m 21M and currently in my fourth year, and go to a solid university (top-40 globally ranked). I’m seriously considering dropping out and could use some honest advice.

I originally wanted to get into Business, and Economics was my second choice. I didn’t get into either (my grades weren’t high enough), so I’ve been stuck in Interdisciplinary Studies (a.k.a. general studies). I’m planning to piece together a mix of economics, business, and humanities courses, but I’m not confident this will lead to good career options.

I’m at 75 credits and still need 45 more to graduate. Because of a traumatic car accident I withdrew from two courses, and I also failed one, so I’m behind where I should be (I should be closer to 84 credits by now). Meanwhile most of my peers are already landing internships in engineering, business, accounting, etc.

Transferring into Business at this point isn’t realistic with a 64% average. I feel ashamed of my major and don’t see a clear path into a real career from here. I really don’t want to end up stuck in minimum-wage work long-term.

Any thoughts on what I should do? Stay and finish? Drop out and try something else? Looking for realistic advice.

21M, down $50k+ lifetime. Just lost my last paycheck + took a payday loan. $0 left and turning 22 next month

Hi, 21M. I keep relapsing. I’m down $50k+ in lifetime losses. Gambling has ruined my life, my relationships, and my mental health. I started gambling when I turned 19. I’m in my fourth year of university, currently studying a useless major that won’t give me any real future opportunities. I got kicked out of my previous university because I was gambling and didn’t focus on my studies. I re-enrolled in college, then transferred back.

Yesterday I got a paycheck of $592. I was so bored and lonely that I decided to gamble online. I played a couple of hands of blackjack and lost all of it within 30 minutes. Then I went into a rage because I was already $1k in credit card debt, working a minimum-wage job, and frustrated with my life. So I decided to get a loan from a loan shop. I took a payday loan of $292 and have to pay back $330 total in the next two weeks.

I’ve been barely getting shifts at work, and I just feel ashamed of my low-status life. I gambled my last $292 and now have $0 to my name. I’m too ashamed to ask my mother for money because she already knows I’m a gambling addict and would shame me for asking (which is totally reasonable). I’m all alone for the summer. I’ve gained like 25 lbs from binge eating and doing nothing all day at home most of the time. I already lost all my dignity when I walked into that loan shop yesterday. Most of my next paycheck (which doesn’t come for another two weeks) will go toward that loan.

I fucking despise my life. I can’t find a better job in this cruel job market. I’ve applied to so many places and keep getting rejected. I’m stuck in a cycle of depression. I genuinely feel like I sold my soul to the devil. I’m turning 22 next month with nothing good accomplished in my life and $0 to my name. I don’t know what to do anymore. I feel hopeless and utter despair.

My dad is also a deadbeat; he gambles too. I just don’t have anyone in my life who truly understands what I’m going through. All this pain and suffering I’m enduring alone is just too much for me to handle.

Does anyone have advice for my exact situation? Everything I’ve worked and saved up for is gone. I would’ve had $30k+ in the bank if I didn’t gamble. I’m just so alone and feel like a loser. I don’t know what will make me stop.
