Writing a complaint to the BBC over misleading coverage on veganism.
"Woman died after vegan diet made her delusional"
Article: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c62d0z7l4rno
Although other news outlets have unfortunately described the incident similarly, the BBC is legally required to be impartial, and as a result is somewhat trusted by the public. I was shocked by the BBC's highly misleading coverage of the incident throughout this article.
You can complain at https://www.bbc.co.uk/contact/complaints/ There is a category for bias.
Here is my draft:
"I am writing to express my concern about the recent coverage titled “Woman died after vegan diet made her delusional” https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c62d0z7l4rno on 20 May 2026. I believe this report presents misleading information and unfairly portrays veganism in a negative light.
The title "Woman died after vegan diet made her delusoinal", and statements like "vitamin B12 deficiency developed as a direct result of her vegan diet" without context imply that veganism itself caused this tragic outcome, when the underlying issue was an improperly planned, unsupplemented diet. Nutritional experts agree that a well-planned vegan diet, including appropriate supplementation (particularly vitamin B12), can be healthy and nutritionally adequate for people of all ages. By not making this distinction, the report risks spreading further misinformation about vegan nutrition and stigmatising those who choose vegan diets.
I request that the BBC review this report and consider issuing a clarification, or correction to accurately reflect the difference between a balanced vegan diet and harmful extreme dietary restrictions. Doing so would help ensure impartial, accurate reporting."
What else can I add? Thank you
