Is this too extreme to send to a old landlord who has just threatened to send me to collections? Am I in the wrong?
They refuse to acknowledge that they have to file with the LTB. They have been contacting me weekly for a month, all over a $200 cleaning bill on move out. I don't care about $200 but it's more the principal. Also I'm no longer a renter so I don't care about a reference. It's a big company based in Calgary so I don't know if that makes a difference. I don't want to ruin my credit so hopefully I'm not bluffing.
**Edit: I should have included this in the post. This is after a month of them trying to chase me down for $200! I sent another similar message 2 weeks ago but they have been calling me daily since. ( They are a $3.3 billion dollar company btw, and it's not even a particularly nice apartment). All they responded to this was giving me methods of payments and saying that it's going to be sent to collections on October 15th:
"Hello,
Please accept this email as my final position on this matter.
Under Section 33 of the Ontario Residential Tenancies Act, tenants are not responsible for arbitrary move-out fees or routine turnover charges imposed after tenancy. I do not agree to or authorize any additional charges.
Should you believe you have a lawful claim, you are welcome to file with the Landlord and Tenant Board, where I will present my defense. This bill is not legally collectable without a LTB order, and we both know that.
Furthermore, please cease all phone calls regarding this matter. All future communications regarding this tenancy must be conducted exclusively in writing via email.
Regards,"
