Hello everyone. Next week, I’ll be taking an Academy Preparation Course that will help me gain some insight into what Academy life is like. The email I received mentioned that I should bring boots and a boot polishing kit. I was wondering if you have any recommendations for the type of boots I should get. For example, do they have to be a specific set of tactical duty boots, or can I just get some black leather boots from Walmart? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am a Central Valley applicant who has just started the background investigation portion of my CHP application. I’m about to turn 22 and recently graduated from university. Currently, I have some free time on my hands since I don't have a job or any other commitments. Every day, all I do is wake up, go on runs, go to the gym, and try to learn about the CHP as much as I can.

I've been reading various comments on this subreddit, and it seems that many people agree the entire application process can take about one to two years. I was wondering if those who are currently applying are allowed to obtain part-time jobs while they wait. I was planning to email my background investigator, but I thought I would ask you all first, as I’m sure they are busy with other matters.
