For those of you that tested in Fresno on 4/25, I just got an email with my written exam scores. Check your emails!
Quick question for anyone that got DQ’d before and reapplied — how long did it take for you to receive the letter in the mail after getting disqualified? Just trying to get an idea of the timeline.
Hello,
I am currently in the hiring process, and as the time gets closer for an academy date, I am wanting to get information on the Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits that are offered to CHP Officers and their dependents.
From what I gathered is you have two Medical benefits routes you can chose between CalPERS/CalHR or CAHP (California Association of Highway Patrol).
Can anyone shed some light if this is correct and/or where would I be able to find the current options and information regarding the plans being offered. For example Costs per family, PPO or HMO, etcetera.
I’m currently looking at the CAHP website and the CALPERS benefits information.
Thank you.
So my BI asked me to update some emails from my references so he can send them an email. Its been a month and they still haven’t received anything. When i emailed him, i didn’t receive a response back. Should i send him a quick email to see if he got the new contact information or do I wait it out? He did say to move forward he needs these references to respond.
I submitted Esoph March 27th, and still have not received anything back. I know no news is good news, was more so curious of anyone else is in a similar situation. Any information is appreciated.
I've been extremely patient and will continue to be patient so please don't think I'm posting this expecting this to be rushed haha (I know someone will comment that). I'm just curious if anyone else is waiting or if this is longer than the normal wait time. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I have some question regarding to the 'Service Retirement Allowance' on the chp beenfit website. How much percentage of the salary are chp officers required to put (if this is not sensitive information) until they retire and is it a set amount of percentage or does it change with factors like time or your rank. Aside from that do officer have 401k match-up or other saving options? Thank you!
Do CHP stations having holding cells until you transport to county?
Hey yall, I’m taking my PELLETB tomorrow and I was curious if I should wear my suit or just a button up and some slacks, I figure a suit will kind of put me on the list for people to pay attention to, but what do I know. What are your thoughts?
Anyone who tested in Fresno 4/25 receive there pellet b scores yet ?
Anyone here who is most likely getting a invite for the next class? Would be cool to meet some of you before we get to the academy!
What are some things you wish you would’ve known then before you got to the Academy or something he should’ve studied a bit more that you regret not doing? Also, what are some items you wish you would’ve packed or known about before?
Hey everyone, looking for some insight from people who’ve been through the CHP hiring process or know how their background investigations work.
I’m currently in the middle of the hiring process for the California Highway Patrol and recently got pulled over and received a speeding ticket. This is my first ticket ever — completely clean record before this. No priors, no accidents, nothing.
I know background investigations are thorough and I plan to be fully transparent about it, but I’m genuinely worried this could hurt or even disqualify my chances. Has anyone dealt with something similar during the CHP hiring process? Did it affect your background investigation or conditional offer?
Any advice or personal experience is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Edit: I’m early in the process and haven’t gotten a BI assigned to me yet.
I know this seems like an obvious answer, and I was trying to tell him not to have all of his eggs in one basket when it comes to law-enforcement, for this particular reason. This happened yesterday and he’s super bummed out about it still. He recently got a callback from CHP to begin his physical testing. I want him to remain as realistic as possible, and as much as I believe in him, sometimes belief just isn’t enough in cases like this. I want to remain hopeful, but I genuinely think that law-enforcement is out of the question due to this mishap. He almost gets a little irritated whenever I bring up that he should be looking into something else. We have a baby on the way. The baby was on its way before he was fired, so it’s also not like we can be picky or choosy about the things that we want to do.
I just wanted to get insight about this because he seems to be a little more receptive when people from this particular Reddit chain respond in regard to these questions.
** I am making this post because these are things he has been concerned about. I use Reddit frequently so I figured I would make a post.
Hi, my boyfriend wants to apply for the CHP academy. I have been reading stuff about credit scores. Does that count against him only if he has stuff in collections or is it bad credit in general? Also, what would be considered bad credit?
I wanted to see if anyone has any tips to prepare to apply to the academy. I have read that they go around and ask neighbors questions about you. Our neighbors have always been standoffish to each other. We are getting ready to move in a month or two so not sure what our options will be. He is looking into becoming a Juvenile Hall CO in the meantime. Would it look better for him to work in this field for about a year and then apply. He is 21, with no prior experience in the law enforcement field. The exam is on 8/15, we have about two months to choose to schedule the date to take the exam.
Any advice is appreciated!!!
Hey everyone,
I’m 20 and going into my sophomore year of college studying Communications. I’m interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement, specifically with CHP, and I wanted to ask for any general tips or advice from people who have gone through the process or know what CHP looks for in applicants.
For some background, I spent about two years in a fire explorer program. During that time, I passed an explorer academy and completed two task books. One allowed me to start doing ride-alongs early in the program, and the other was supposed to take about a year, but I finished it in a few months and earned my badge.
I also want to be upfront that I smoked weed during my freshman year of college. I plan to stop completely now as I’m going into my sophomore year because I’m serious about pursuing this career and want to make sure I’m making the right choices moving forward.
I’d very much appreciate any advice on how to prepare, what to focus on in college, how to make myself a stronger applicant, and anything I should know about the CHP hiring process or academy.
Hi everyone , I’m currently in college studying for construction management I’m 19 years old and a half. I’ve recently decided to look more into the CHP program and I’ve made my decision to keep studying while I get in to the application part. I have some questions regarding background. I’ve had my license for three years and a half since I’ve been 16 and throughout those 3 1/2 years I’ve only got one citation for passing over a double yellow ( lost my patience food truck was super going slow and built up a line I was first behind it , I know was super dumb I was 17 ) . Since then, I’ve got zero citations only got pulled over three months ago for a warning on my tent, but Nothing written. Another concern I have is THC usage and alcohol, I’ve never been one to constantly drink and smoke weed throughout the week, but Occasionally, with friends, I have during college. It has never constant habit of mine. I’m super motivated, but want to know realistically if my chances of getting DQ are high for this. That is the only thing I’m worried about. I’ve kept my jobs. Never been fired and have good credit. I’ll help is really appreciated. Thank you.
Depending on location as a new hire? After your on your own is there a certain amount of “tickets” you have to do? Thank you.
Has anyone here failed the audiogram/hearing test & was required to do it again during medical? If so, is it a DQ if failed the second time or what is the next step?
