Question about a road rage / hit-and-run incident in Vallejo
I’m hoping to get some advice from CHP officers or anyone familiar with how these cases are handled.
Yesterday I was driving on I-80 when another driver became extremely aggressive after I merged. They followed me for over half a mile, cut off other vehicles to get in front of me, brake-checked me repeatedly, honked aggressively, and threw cans/other objects at my car. They continued following me after I exited the freeway until I was able to get somewhere safe.
I called 911 while all this was happening and gave the dispatcher the vehicle description, driver description, and license plate. I was told the call would be broadcast.
After I got somewhere safe, I inspected my car and found three dents caused during the incident.
I went to Solano CHP and filed a property-damage report. They told me it would be reviewed by an officer, but currently I only have the 911/CAD log number rather than a formal case number. My insurance company has also classified the incident as a hit-and-run.
My questions are:
- With the license plate, vehicle description, driver description, and a 911 call made during the incident, how likely is it that CHP can identify the driver?
- If the registered owner says they weren’t driving, what can investigators do to determine who actually was driving?
