Noticing my own nose

It's kinda embarrassing.

I have visual snow and tinnitus from a young age. Lately my tinnitus got worse

And for the past few days I'm noticing my nose all the time in my field of vision

Its like there's always this 'after-image' of it

Does anyone experienced this? Does it get better?

Does anyone else’s tinnitus have two distinct "modes"?

For the past six months, I've been dealing with a pretty bad spike in the tinnitus I've had since childhood. Lately, I’ve realized that my tinnitus basically operates in two completely different ways depending on my environment.

The first mode is what I get during the day. When there’s some background noise, I just hear a constant, high-pitched pure tone. It feels identical in both ears, or maybe like it's coming straight from the middle of my head.

But the other mode happens whenever it's completely quiet. Like, the exact moment I get into my car alone and shut the door, when I'm alone at home, or when I wake up in the dead of night.

In those quiet moments, it’s not just that one sharp tone anymore. It’s hard to put into words, but it literally feels like someone turned on high-volume amplifiers inside my ears, but without actually playing any music. Just that raw, heavy sensation of the amps being "on" and humming. And of course, the sharp tone from the daytime is still there too, sometimes even louder.

I'm just curious if anyone else experiences this or if the "amplifier" description makes sense to anyone else here?

occasionally taking benzos worsen tinnitus?

Lately, I’ve been taking lorazepam (1 mg) about once every week or two because I think it might make my tinnitus a bit more tolerable. The frustrating part is that I’m not even sure- it’s hard to tell if it’s actually helping. My evenings after taking it seem somewhat better, and I do tend to sleep more easily. However, the day after, T feels significantly worse, which makes me want to take more, even though I know the long-term risks. I almost wish I could say the pill did nothing for my tinnitus so I wouldn’t feel compelled to keep using it. I’m curious about others’ experiences with benzos.
