Privatley renting above a council flat. Problems..

For context, I moved in to a private rental flat around 6 months ago which is a first floor of a house conversion, the ground floor is a council flat with a vulnerable old man in it, I had no idea this was the case before moving in, I just thought It was a nice spacious flat for the price.

After moving in, the front communal ground floor is constantly left wide open by the old man. I've asked multiple times to keep it closed and raised to my landlord and the council. I asked the council if they can fit a self closing mechanism for security. The council refused to fit a self closing mechanism on the front door because "the risk of the old man being locked out outwieghs the risk of the front door being left open, please speak with him to settle the dispute"... that was it. He literally never closes it behind him when leaving the residence or returning. It's always wide open he just closes his personal flat door. I'm constantly closing it behind him but can't always be there to do so. I live in a city, and it has a fairly high crime rate, hence the concern.

He also drinks a lot of alcohol every single day, and it stinks of stale urine in the communal hallway, BADLY, I think he gets drunk and pisses the bed and never cleans it. It started really smelling vile around 1 month ago in the communal hallway outside his flat door where the communal front door is, and it's obviously coming from his flat. It reeks of piss. The entrance to the building literally smells like a public park urninal, I'm wondering if this is why he always leaves the front door wide open.. becuse when it's been closed for a few hours, the piss stench is far more apparent.

I was told by the council (when i complained about the door security) that he has care workers visit and to speak with them, but I haven't seen them and that's not really my job to do so anyways..

So currently, I'm stuck with an unsecured front door and piss stench. And to top it off, he hacks and coughs and what I can only describe as 'shout grunts' constantly every few minutes all day, every day from 6am to midnight. All I hear is "HUUUURGH" at a maximum shouting level followed by hacking shout grunts are so loud they vibrate the floor boards. It is VILE. Obviously, he is in bad health and can't help that. But this situation is dire.

I also had council people turn up and asked to fit extra fire safety heat detectors, which react faster than smoke alarms in my flat upstairs.. their words "just in case god forbid anything happened downstairs," basically saying we know the old guy is a risk..

Thoughts?

Symbicort is insane

Hi all, so for contex the last 30 years I've had severe asthma and it was terribly uncontrolled. I would get inhalers from the doctors and buy extras online becusse my one month supply of ventolin wasn't enough and sometimes would be taking salamol/ventolin every couple of hours, on a bad day id day ot maybe 15 times a day. Beclomethasone didn't work as my preventer ever, and I gave up on the docs and I kept it all a secret from friends and family with how bad it was.

I then was told i need to do a new review and could not get any more prescriptions until i did. I hadn't had an asthma review in over 10 years. So I went. I had a new doctor this time she immediately tested my lung information with this electronic thing you blow into, I blew 65 and it was supposed for be down at 20 so I was very inflamed as my baseline which felt normal for me.

She said she wants to take me off salamol/ventolin and beclomethasone and put me on symbicort MART therapy where it's used as maintenance and relief. I agreed. I was worried to no longer have the blue inhaler but thought I need to try.

WOW this drug is life changing. 1 inhalation in the morning and all asthma symptoms are gone, I can breathe deeper than I have been able to do my whole life. it's literally like I don't have asthma. I can talk better and I haven't had to use it for relief either, just 1 inhalation morning and nighttime.

I just wanted to share this as maybe someone else out there is how I was. I know I was an idiot for not doing asthma reviews regularly and hiding my condition, but as a young man I felt ashamed about it. I would frequently have anxiety and depression and it really affected my life negatively, so I hid it away, I knew its was really poorly controlled but didn't think I could access any other drugs and was heavily dependant on blue puffers.

But now, with this new doctor and new drug, Im so happy. I know we can never be cured for me this is as close as a cure can be.

I'm going to start exercising as I'll be able to now without needed to constantly needing ventolin.

Sending strength to all those suffering.
