Central Park Safety Issues

I’ve been running in Central Park my whole life and truly believe it’s the best city park (at least for runners) in the whole world. But the current state of safety in the park is ridiculous. People being killed is not a “freak accident” if it’s happening every week.

At what point are we ALL (bikers, dog walkers included) going to figure out a solution that works for everyone? There is a lot of tribalism over exercise hobbies, but I really believe the park can be a safe place for everyone.

When I was a kid, my mom was hit by a biker in a hit and run on the loop and only (luckily) broke her arm. I think a lot about how differently my life could have gone, and it makes me feel so horrible for those kids that lost their father a few weeks ago.

Has the park ever had this many fatalities, or is there some recency bias and I’m just not remembering? What can we all do to make the park a safer place for everyone? I’m interested in finding solutions, not finger pointing at bikers or dog walkers or whoever.

First time marathoner - wave question

First time marathoner here! When registering for NYC, I put down an estimated finish time of 4:30 - after training (and talking to coaches, not just my own delusion) my goal pace is now 3:30. Is there any way to change my estimated time to move up wave(s)? I unfortunately won’t be able to race in any other event before the marathon. Thanks!!

First timer NYC Marathon Advice

Hey everyone, super excited to be running the NYC Marathon for charity as my first ever marathon! Would really appreciate some feedback from experienced runners on my training plan. For context, I’ve been running consistently for 3 years now and run a whole bunch of half marathons. I’ve recently ramped up (slowly) to over 40 miles a week consistently. Live in Manhattan and most of my training is done in Central Park / West Side Highway. Goal is to break 4 hours. Thanks!!
