New Khorne player in the making

Here it is. My official entry into the realm of Khorne. How fun are they to paint? I feel that will determine if I move beyond Spearhead.

Blades of Khorne Spearhead formations

So what is the general consensus about this factions Spearhead formations?

I'm a relatively new AoS player (40k veteran) and our friend group really enjoys spearhead. I started with Stormcast Eternals, but I have two painted Spearheads now, so I'm looking for a third. A friend of mine has the Fangs of the Blood God spearhead and I wanted to try it, because Khorne is awesome and I wanted to just play a very aggressive Spearhead. I'm not saying the Fangs are bad, but they definitely weren't what I expected from a Khorne faction.

Then I tried the Bloodbound Gore Pilgrims (with proxies just to try the rules) and immediately, I felt like YES, this is what I expected a Khorne faction to play like. I found a shop that still had this Spearhead box and immediately placed the order. I look forward to joining the Blades proper.

But part of me is still baffled that the active Spearhead doesn't feel Khorne-like at all. Weak attacks, weak saves, a quarry rule that only affects one Hero. Sure, everything has reinforcement and there are many attacks to go around, but I played against Stormcast and wasn't able to kill a single unit.

What are your opinions on these formations? Are how much of it travels over to the full Battletome playstyle?

1999 Sergeant in Homebrew colours

Green stuff banner, not yet decided what to put on there. I'm using him as a firstborn Lieutenant.

Firstborn Inner Circle Companions

Tactical or Devastator sergeants by day, but secret-hoarding conspirators of the Inner Circle by night. My DA successors are a little different from the Risen.

Mainly just an excuse to pull out the bitsbox and have some fun. I'll get them on the right bases when they're painted.

What is our strength as an army?

After playing 40k for five years or so, I finally made the transition to Age of Sigmar after my friend pushed and pushed and everyone around me seems to have started AoS around the same time. So I thought, fine. I love the models in AoS and the Stormcast Eternals were my faction of choice because they have really cool new models and seem fun to paint.

So far I have the Skaventide half, the Yndrasta spearhead box, and a random unit of 5 vindictors I would have otherwise used for kitbashing Rubric Marines. Rest assured, I'm not buying anything else until I've finished painting all this (roughly 40% done).

I tend to be rather bad at the game itself. With my 40k armies, I always just got the models I liked, and not necessarily the models that were good. My friend is very good at the game, though, and if I only play models I like, I end up losing with big numbers every time. That's just not a good feeling. So I feel like I need to find a middle ground between buying cool models and buying because of rules. And for that I need to understand what makes the faction good.

I've read the codex through and it's just a lot. Lots of units that fulfil similar goals. Infantry, cavalry, big heroes, small heroes. Having lots of units only makes making the choice between them harder, it seems.

So what is the quintessential Stormcast strategy lens through which you choose the units you want to field? What is our strength and what should I lean towards while learning this faction?
